Guideposts is a monthly inspirational, interfaith magazine written by people from all walks of life, with a readership of 8 million. Its articles help readers achieve their maximum personal and spiritual potential.

Job Description

Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for fact-checking and researching material that goes into the magazine. The material ranges from feature-length stories to short articles or fact tables, as well as recipes and author information sections. The intern will also proofread various articles, looking for any errors of grammar or facts. The intern will work closely with editors and will also have the opportunity to write short pieces. As well, the intern will need to be able to find suitable quotes for our Up Side department.

Qualifications:
Have experience researching and fact-checking by phone, on the internet or by using various books such as Who’s Who, Webster Biographical Dictionary, Webster 11th edition Dictionary, etc. Need to have knowledge of Nexis, Google and IMDB websites. Need to have excellent phone skills when calling authors to check factual changes. Interest in finding story ideas, a plus. Knowledge of Words into Type, a plus.

Need someone who is energetic and proactive in his or her work. Attention to detail, self-discipline and excellent organizational skills are a must.

Other duties include:
inputting research changes into copy
providing additional research when there are holes in writers’ copy
sniffing out story leads
performing other administrative and editorial duties
