The Overseas Press Club of America was founded in 1939 in New York by a group of foreign correspondents. The OPC seeks to maintain an international association of journalists working in the United States and abroad; to encourage the highest standards of professional integrity and skill in the reporting of news; to help educate a new generation of journalists; to contribute to the freedom and independence of journalists and the press throughout the world, and to work toward better communication and understanding among people.

Job Description

The Overseas Press Club’s Freedom of the Press Committee is looking for a spring contributor to assist with documenting and publicizing attacks on the press worldwide in articles for the web site, letters to foreign governments and through social media. The contributor will be invited to attend the annual awards ceremony on April 25, 2012, and paid $500.

The OPC seeks to maintain an international association of journalists working in the United States and abroad; to encourage the highest standards of professional integrity and skill in the reporting of news; to help educate a new generation of journalists; to contribute to the freedom and independence of journalists and the press throughout the world, and to work toward better communication and understanding among people.

Contributors will research and write pieces for the OPC website, based on published and online sources, covering current stories and controversies of interest to OPC members. Contributors will use social media to discuss press freedom issues and raise the OPC profile.

Our ideal candidate is interested in international journalism, familiar with news programming and current events, uses social media. He or she has strong research and writing skills, is well organized and detail oriented, mature and responsible, and can work independently.

The OPC internship runs for 12 weeks, starting on Feb. 20 through May 11, 2012. We require approximately 5-7 hours a week of work. The intern will be paid $500 at the end of the internship.
