Company Description

This Old House, the nation’s leading DIY/home improvement magazine, is looking for an Editorial Assistant to help design, produce, and write about how-to projects. We’re looking for someone with both the interest and the ability to develop into a cross-platform team player equally comfortable writing clear step-by-step copy for the magazine and video scripts for the Web. Editorial aptitude is essential. Knowledge of the subject matter would be a plus. And any experience in video production will get our attention.

Job Description

Specific duties, which may be tailored to a promising candidate’s strengths, include:

> conceptualize and pitch project ideas for three how-to columns: Build It or Buy it, Home Center Project, and Weekend Remodel
> work with story editor and carpenter on project design
> outline project construction
> scout locations
> write shot lists for project video
> write how-to copy for projects
> source materials
> prep project with carpenter
> handle and work with building materials
> other editorial and administrative duties as they arise
