Job Description

Job Type: Paid Post Graduate Internship
Location: New York, NY
Desired Start Date: Late May or early June 2014
Duration: 3 Months with potential for extension

Passionate about digital content? Got a knack for spotting the next big viral video? Obsessed with monitoring metrics to see how well a story is doing, and feel compelled to update until engagement is increased?

In this role, you’ll work alongside our senior editors helping manage real-time programming on AOL.com, where 10 Million visitors will view your work each and every day. You’ll be writing headlines, finding stories, and building article pages, including writing articles, and pulling from wires. You’ll be responsible for selecting photos to accompany stories as well as search our extensive video library for top content from high-end partners videos including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Conde Nast and more. You’ll act as a liaison between AOL and our partners, plus you’ll monitor metrics to track how our users are engaging with the site.

You’ll work directly for our Director of Video Programming & Director of Lifestyle Programming. Some thing you’ll be up to may include:
Writing headlines
Identifying stories our audience will love and engage with
Working in a CMS and publishing in real time, with 10-15 deadlines per day
Optimizing web traffic
Promoting AOL content across social media platforms
Growing our already well established online audience and community

What we’re looking for:
Recent 2014 graduates strongly preferred who are able to work 40hrs/week beginning ASAP!
Previous web journalism experience a MUST
Thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to respond to news in real time
Ability to spot a hot-button story or viral video from a mile away
Demonstrates superior news judgment and writing skills
Be able to condense large amounts of information into engaging and intriguing promos
Ability to identify the best photo to accompany a story; Photoshop skills and experience strongly preferred
Knowledge of/experience with CMS, basic HTML a plus
Excellent writing skills; English and Journalism Majors preferred
Demonstrated interest and knowledge in an array of subjects
Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously without being overwhelmed
Excellent organizational skills, meticulous with details, and able to take direction and constructive feedback
