This high-impact publication presents peer-reviewed, original articles describing major advances in basic, translational, and clinical research, including clinical trials. Cancer Discovery is an essential information resource that also publishes news, review articles, perspectives and commentaries, and Research Watch summaries of important journal articles.

Location: Philadelphia or Boston

Position Summary:

The Senior Editor, Cancer Discovery, will be a seasoned publishing professional who will work within an established editorial team to handle manuscript submissions through the review process. This person will also commission Reviews and other content, and will write and edit for the journal. As a key member of the publications group, the Senior Editor, Cancer Discovery will have a highly visible role both within the Association and in the larger cancer research community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

•Works with the Editors-in-Chief and an in-house editorial team to communicate the editorial vision of the journal to the scientific community, including its scope, types of features, and balance of topics.
•Collaborates with the Editors-in-Chief and in-house editorial team to identify and attract high-quality original research, reviews, and special feature content in the broad field of oncology.
•Networks and maintains relationships with key scientists and physicians to acquire content and stay abreast of advances in cancer research.
•Manages the peer-review process and ensures quality and timely handling of submissions.
•Collaborates with the staff of the seven “sibling” AACR journals to ensure good communication and promotion of synergistic opportunities.
•Provides editorial direction for market research and promotional activities, including highlighting the importance of articles to AACR’s Communications Department to publicize those that are media worthy.
•Communicates with authors, editors, reviewers, and readers regarding all aspects of the journal.
•Monitors, evaluates, and reports on the activities of competing information products.
•Maintains AACR editorial guidelines and policies and works with the in-house editorial team to promote ethical publishing practices.

Education and Training:

•PhD in the biomedical or life sciences with strong background in the cancer field or MD with oncology background.
•Experience in translational cancer research and/or science-based clinical trials.
•5-10 years experience in scientific or medical journals publishing.
