Job Description

newsday.com is looking for an experienced Web producer to update our website in the competitive New York metro-area market and work on interactive projects. This position requires significant Web and newsroom experience, strong news judgment, an interest in mobile news and organizational skills. Please note, this is a Wednesday-Sunday shift with morning hours. It is not an entry-level position; the salary is not entry level either.

Responsibilities include:
-Running the homepage and all subsections of newsday.com, and our mobile platforms;
-Helping lead our coverage in breaking news situations;
-Working on interactive projects, such as those at newsday.com/data;
-Creating photo galleries and curating stories with multimedia extras;
-Using metrics to inform programming decisions and help improve projects;
-Assigning and overseeing the work of assistant Internet news managers and interns.

Our ideal candidate is:
-Currently running a news website, homepage or section front;
-Committed to a high standard of journalism with a keen attention to detail;
-Fast, accurate and flexible;
-Well-organized and patient;
-Adept at juggling tasks and calm under pressure in breaking news and deadline situations;
-Knowledgeable about the role social media and mobile applications play in expanding a website’s reach, and comfortable with technology;
-Familiar with databases, CSS, MySQL, social media and mobile apps.

Experience and qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and at least three years of newsroom Web producing experience
- Worked with a Web publishing content management system
- Basic HTML and photo editing skills
- Reliable transportation to and from Newsday’s suburban Melville office
