Newsday is one of the nation’s largest daily newspapers, serving Long Island through its portfolio of print and digital products. Newsday has received 19 Pulitzer Prizes and other prestigious awards for outstanding journalism. The newspaper is read by 2 out of 3 Long Island adults each week, and ranks in the top 10 of U.S. newspapers for combined print and digital daily circulation. Newsday and its popular websites, newsday.com and exploreLI.com, are part of Newsday Media Group, which also includes amNewYork, the nation's most widely circulated free daily serving New York City; and Star Community Publishing, one of the Northeast's largest groups of weekly shopper publications. Newsday Media Group is a subsidiary of Cablevision Systems Corporation. Additional information about Newsday can be found at www.newsday.com
The Newsday summer internship program runs for 10 weeks and is designed for college students interested in a media career. Interns will work as reporters, copy editors, visual journalists or designers for the newspaper and the web, and are given actual assignments for publication. Interns are participants, not merely observers, in the daily process of putting out the newspaper and the website. The summer program also provides weekly seminars in which participants join with regular Newsday staff members in informal discussions.
Internships are available in the following areas: Business Reporting, Computer Assisted Reporting, Copy Editing, Explore LI Reporting, Graphics and Design, Local News Reporting, Opinion, Photography and Sports Reporting.
In addition to writing samples, applicants are required to write two essays.
