Journalism Job

Media Organization: TheWeek.com

Company Description

Like its spirited newsweekly, The Week, TheWeek.com distills the best news, opinion, and ideas from the U.S. and international media, and, along with original analysis and opinions of the day's breaking news and biggest events, presents users with a succinct summation of "all you need to know about everything that matters."

Job Description

TheWeek.com is looking for a highly creative and talented visual editor with exceptional news judgment to join its fast-growing, award-winning site — part of the media group that includes The Week magazine and MentalFloss.com.

The assistant photo editor will report to our executive editor of multimedia, and will be charged with much of the selection, creation, and production of all photos, cartoons, and other visuals on TheWeek.com, including the packaging of these images on our homepage. This individual will also contribute photo essays to our "Captured" section.

The ideal candidate is a confident, highly organized news junkie with a great eye for a winning digital image, a keen understanding and constant awareness of rights issues surrounding images, and the sort of artistic creativity, skill, and wit needed to create engaging and smart illustrations for our articles. This individual should have some Photoshop skills, or an interest in building those skills, to conceive and create photo illustrations that fit The Week's style. This individual should also be fully capable of writing clean, engaging, concise copy -- and someone who can work successfully in the fast-paced environment of a breaking news-and-opinion website. Versatility, creativity, and a sense of humor are critical, as are a passion for the news and a great attitude.

This person will work standard hours Monday through Friday out of our New York office. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative, hard-working self-starter eager to join one of the sharpest and hardest-working teams in our industry.

To Apply

Interested candidates should send a resume and brief cover letter to jobs@theweek.com, and include "assistant photo editor" in the subject line.
