Job Description
Cracked.com, which started as a comedy magazine in 1958 and jumped online in 2005, is looking for regular freelance contributors for its rapidly expanding operation.

Articles: Cracked is one of the progenitors and popularizers of the listed internet article, and we pride ourselves in our ability to present big ideas in reader-friendly ways. Popular topics include movies (think: behind-the-scenes details, fan theories), history (debunkers, obscure facts), local lore (urban legends, regional quirks), true crime, internet trends, consumer/media/civic explainers, and first-person life experience essays. We are also looking to expand our roster of gaming and science contributors.
Most listed articles have 5 entries and clock in at ~2,000 words. A short opening paragraph is required. For those articles with a singular focus (say, first-person essays), the entries highlight the salient points. If contacted by Cracked, qualified candidates are expected to pitch initially, and regular contributors are eligible for premise assignments from editorial staff.
Requirements: Familiarity with the Cracked brand and voice, strong comedic/conversational prose, a knowledge of research and sourcing best practices, previous writing experience (or a commensurate writing sample)
Rates And Deadlines: $250/article; 1-2 week turnaround
Pictofacts: Cracked's popular Pictofact image sets convey a series of sourced facts or observations about a certain topic. (The topic cues described above for articles also apply here.) If contacted by Cracked, qualified candidates are expected to pitch initially, and regular contributors are eligible for premise assignments from editorial staff. Accepted Pictofacts must be laid out in the design parameters delineated by Cracked staff.
Requirements: Familiarity with the Cracked brand and voice, strong comedic/conversational prose, Photoshop skills, a knowledge of research and sourcing best practices, previous digital design experience (or a commensurate Pictofact design sample)
Rates And Deadlines: $200/20 image set (with a short opening paragraph); 1-2 weeks turnaround
Regular Short Blogging: Cracked is looking for regular bloggers to write scheduled evergreen/semi-evergreen short topic posts ranging from 500-1,000 words. (The topic cues described above for articles also apply here.) Posts are laid out in Cracked's CMS and require a thumbnail in the design parameters delineated by Cracked staff.
Requirements: Familiarity with the Cracked brand and voice, strong comedic/conversational prose, ability to use the Cracked CMS, Photoshop skills, a knowledge of research and sourcing best practices, previous writing experience (or a commensurate writing sample)
Rates and Deadlines: $50/post (with thumbnail), commitment to post at regularly scheduled times weekly
