Media-Related Job

Media Organization: Mediator PR

Company Description

Mediator is a New York City-based public relations agency with a simple mission: To get its clients into the news.

Over and over again, we've gotten our clients dedicated, organically placed articles and segments in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, INSIDER, and dozens of other nationally recognized publications and TV stations.

Mediator was founded and is run by Michael Simonson, a veteran publicist and writer. His writing has appeared in Reason and Mad In America.

Job Description

I'm looking for a publicist who has the skills and instincts of a dogged journalist.

This would be my PR agency's first hire. So whoever gets the job would be in great position to grow their career at nearly the same rate the agency grows.

Our agency's approach to getting our clients into the news is informed by my background as a journalist.

We aren't interested in writing generic press releases. Instead, we aim to write email pitches that really grab the attention of a cross-section of journalists, from beat reporters at the New York Post to Pulitzer Prize winners at The New York Times (we've arranged a number of placements in both outlets).

Here's how it works: After signing up a client, we interview them just like a reporter would for a minimum of 30 minutes - and sometimes for multiple hours - about their business and their life.

We type-transcribe these interviews nearly word-for-word on a laptop (without using a recording device) so that we can write pitches immediately afterwards, which are distributed to thousands of top-tier journalists.

This approach has served us well so far. We've gotten our clients dedicated articles/segments in/on many of the top outlets in the country: The New York Times, NBC Nightly News, The Wall Street Journal, Slate, CNBC, VICE, MSNBC, CNN, and dozens more.
