Spring & Summer Editorial Interns

Editorial Intern
Wine & Spirits is seeking interns for our New York editorial department. Editorial internships are opportunities for aspiring writers to acquire professional experience, to work closely with editors and to learn about all phases of print and digital magazine publishing.

Interns research story concepts, conduct interviews and write for print, digital and social. They may check facts, help with special sections, and assist with editorial research. Interns will gain the kinds of critical writing, editing and revising skills that will enable them to produce content that meets the needs of both editors and readers. They should leave the Wine & Spirits internship with substantial bylines.

Responsibilities:
Write for the web and print
Assist editors with research and reporting
Fact check and proofread
Upload/manage event, news and other posts
Contribute to, proof, and edit social feeds

Qualifications
Background in journalism and/or creative writing
Ability to jump between often disparate tasks
Strong proofreading skills
Deadline oriented
Independent and self-motivated

Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in wine, spirits, and food; those with previous writing experience; and to students. Writing or editing experience in newspapers or magazines is an asset.

The internship is 12-20 hours per week for three months. For students, the intern supervisor can work with advisers to provide college credit for the internship experience.

 

CleanTech & Sustainable Investing Reporting Non-credit Internship

[This internship is not eligible for journalism credit.] CleanTechIQ, a publisher of news and analysis for the venture capital, private equity and corporate communities, is seeking a part-time U.S. based editorial intern to cover news and events in the clean technology, finance and sustainability space.

We are looking for someone who can produce short analysis pieces, mass media summaries and contribute to original content for our weekly newsletter.

We also run in-person events and would like to work with the editorial intern to help with panels and write concise event take-aways based on the discussions.

The intern role will initially be unpaid, but is expected to grow into a paid position over a 1-2 month time frame. After an initial trial period, future responsibilities will include working on in-depth research projects, industry Q&As, developing company profiles, and organizing webinars and events.

Three positions are available starting June 17 in the editorial department and may involve reporting, research, fact gathering and other related responsibilities. The internship runs about 2 months during the summer, 8 hours per day, two days/week. Position is unpaid; interns MUST be able to receive academic credit.

Responsibilities
Interns will:
– pitch and write bylined stories for the City & State website and print magazine
– work closely with editors to improve their written copy
– conduct and transcribe interviews with New York political figures
– assist reporters with research and combing through large data sets
– develop and publish at least one longer capstone feature for the summer

Editorial Intern

Interns are an important part of Salon’s daily editorial operations. They work closely with Salon staff to research, report, write and produce our news and culture coverage. They also learn about the day-to-day workings of an award-winning online news and entertainment site. Many Salon interns have gone on to jobs in the media, including Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Elle, CNN and, of course, Salon. We require a time commitment of at least 15 hours per week, over at least 2 days. This internship is for college credit. Some professional experience is required.

Editorial Intern

AdHoc is seeking interns to work in our Brooklyn office.

All candidates must live in the New York area and be available 12-20 hours per week starting January and ending in May. We offer internships in three different concentration areas: events, editorial, and marketing. (Only editorial internships are eligible for credit.)

Editorial internship tasks include assisting with proofreading, fact-checking, and research for our quarterly print zine; contributing artist interviews and short write-ups to our online publication; building posts in our website; and help with social media and zine distribution.

All intern candidates should have excellent research skills, a laptop, and familiarity with the local music scene. The ability to gain school credit for the internship is strongly preferred but not required.

WhySpeakChinese Blog Writing Intern

Asia Society is launching a new blog on its whyspeakchinese.org platform and is now recruiting students learning Chinese, Chinese students, and expats living in China for multiple positions.

WhySpeakChinese is an online media project that delivers news on Chinese entertainment, language, and modern cultural phenomenon to a global audience. Our global, cross-platform network includes our site, YouTube channel and Instagram account, as well as other digital platforms. Our news and entertainment serve the post-‘90s and ‘00s generation- an engaged, global audience that connects with culture and entertainment through digital platforms and video.

WhySpeakChinese is an online media project developed by the China Learning Initiatives, Center for Global Education at the Asia Society.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The WhySpeakChinese writing staff is involved in choosing various topics for content pieces for the WhySpeakChinese blog. As a writer, you are responsible for biweekly assignments and attending the biweekly pitch meetings.

In short, you will also be responsible for:
- Pitching ideas related to your specific content category.
- Writing a minimum of two content pieces every month.

This position will require a minimum 7-month commitment, from Nov 2018-May 2019. This is a REMOTE position.

Applicants do not need prior news writing experience to apply for this job. Applicants must be actively learning Chinese and/or living in China.

For Native Chinese writing staff only: You must be aware of current trends in pop culture, entertainment, Internet memes/ discussions, music, etc. Writers will be required to submit their content pieces in English.
