mediabistro.com's growing editorial department seeks ambitious interns to assist its news and features team in our New York City office. Intern will regularly assist department with copy editing, proofreading, article production, and story research. Intern will learn about the world of digital journalism by gaining practice with HTML, blogging, social media, and viral marketing and will also have the opportunity to cover media events for our blogs.

Photo Journalism Internship

We are seeking detail oriented, responsible candidates with a background/interest in online media/photography. This internship is a perfect place to learn research and photo editing skills plus observe how a digital media website operates.

Responsibilities:
Participate in the process of fulfilling photo requests along with senior editors. Partner with the senior photo team to learn how to research and write captions for photo galleries. Learn how to communicate effectively with reporters and editors to determine optimal photographic online content and photo opportunities. Practice archiving and cataloging photos. Learn how to react under deadlines and changing priorities while training alongside the editorial team.

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a great eye for compelling photos and are resourceful, creative, and able to learn quickly. Knowledge of Photoshop and computer savvy is a must. Ideal candidates will have a solid understanding/interest in current events.

This is an internship for credit. All applicants must be currently enrolled in degree granting program and receive college credit for the internship. Additionally, credit certification proof must be provided during the interview process.

Summer Advertising Internship

Psychology Today has an excellent opportunity for a smart and talented advertising intern to learn how the business side of a media company works at our New York office. We are a small staff, so you'll be a key member of the team. Duties include working closely with the Associate Publisher, advertising staff and art department on sales and marketing projects, and assisting our production department with print and online advertising preparation, as well as developing marketing materials. Outstanding professionalism and organization are a requirement; you must be able to juggle several tasks at once and work autonomously. Internship Summary:
Climate Watch is a KQED multi-platform series that explores climate science and policy from a California perspective through reporting for radio, web, and TV. The Climate Watch intern supports Climate Watch coverage primarily for radio and web, although occasional television opportunities are available. In addition to supporting the Climate Watch staff with ongoing coverage, interns are expected to develop related projects of their own with the goal of producing them for the web and/or broadcast. Interns will receive practical experience combined with seminars and workshops on a variety of topics. Topics will include:

Use of field recording equipment; audio recording in various settings

Use of editing software

Development & production of radio & television segments

Development of multimedia projects for the web (interactive features including maps and slideshows)

Writing for the web (Climate Watch Blog)

Posting of audio/video content to Web

Duties Include:
Research stories for radio, web, and television
Monitor CW inbox, email alerts, and press releases
Research web features and tools for multimedia projects
Assist reporters by logging interviews
Attend editorial meetings, schedule permitting
Assist reporters & producers in the field
Archive files, notes and materials associated with Climate Watch content
Help with some clerical tasks as needed
Reporting and producing personal projects
Internship Qualifications:
Strong interest in science & environmental issues and a passion for public broadcasting

Some experience with any of the three platforms: radio or TV broadcast or web production

Editorial Internship

Photo Intern

The Seventeen Magazine Photo Department is searching for sharp, responsible, go-getting interns for the Summer 2011 semester.

Interns assist the Photography Director, Photo Editor, and Photo Assistant in tasks ranging from prop styling to photo shoot production to photo research.

Eligible candidates must be available to work 2-to-3 full days a week and able to receive credit from their university. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and the Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.

Preference will be given to students majoring in photography.

Esquire magazine is looking for one or several editorial interns to join its online department in New York City this summer, on either a part-time or full-time basis, depending on scheduling. The ideal applicant is a web-savvy self-starter who's passionate about all things politics, pop culture, media, and style. For more than three decades The Nation Institute, in conjunction with The Nation magazine, has provided an internship program for college students and recent graduates interested in magazine journalism and publishing.

Our internship program offers seven editorial interns a comprehensive submersion into the magazine's editorial process. These interns' primary responsibilities are fact checking and research. Two additional interns work as web editorial interns. Candidates interested in this internship should indicate that in their cover letter and tell us about their experience with web production and social media. We also offer the Spira Lopez internship, a position for qualified Hispanic or Latino candidates.

All interns have the opportunity to write for TheNation.com; participate in career seminars with journalists, politicians, and activists; in addition to performing administrative work.

The internship is full time, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., five days a week. The Summer 2011 session begins June 7 and ends August 19, and the deadline for postmarked applications is March 1, 2011. Intern

ChannelOne.com is seeking an editorial intern. Outstanding writing skills are the most important piece of this role. Other responsibilities include pitching ideas for the site and then producing content inside a CMS. Some administrative work including moderating user-generated content and transferring content from one system to another is likely.

Photoshop skills are a plus. You must be able to receive college credit to work with us, and though this internship is unpaid, we can offer a monthly Metrocard as compensation.
