For more than three decades The Nation Institute, in conjunction with The Nation magazine, has provided an internship program for college students and recent graduates interested in magazine journalism and publishing.
Our internship program offers seven editorial interns a comprehensive submersion into the magazine's editorial process. These interns' primary responsibilities are fact checking and research. Two additional interns work as web editorial interns. Candidates interested in this internship should indicate that in their cover letter and tell us about their experience with web production and social media. We also offer the Spira Lopez internship, a position for qualified Hispanic or Latino candidates.
All interns have the opportunity to write for TheNation.com; participate in career seminars with journalists, politicians, and activists; in addition to performing administrative work.
The internship is full time, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., five days a week. The Summer 2011 session begins June 7 and ends August 19, and the deadline for postmarked applications is March 1, 2011. There are nine intern positions (including two web interns and the Spira Lopez intern). There is a $150/week stipend.
