Engagement Associate

Spectrum is looking for an Engagement Associate to deepen our engagement with our audience.

Spectrum is an autism news site intended for scientists, although we are also read by many non-scientists.

The Spectrum Engagement Associate's primary role will be to engage researchers and clinicians who study autism and treat autism with Spectrum's award-winning content. Reporting to the Director of Engagement and Marketing, the Engagement Associate will execute Spectrum's strategy in these areas, and work with the rest of the team to ensure that Spectrum is reaching its specialized audience that includes neuroscientists, neurologists, and policymakers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement and support Spectrum's engagement and marketing strategy
• Collaborate closely with Spectrum's editorial team
• Create and deliver engagement reports based on qualitative and quantitative metrics
• Liaise with Simons Foundation colleagues in similar roles
• Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
• Bachelor's degree required
• Science background preferred

Experience
• At least three years of experience in engagement and marketing roles
• Experience in journalism, or working at journalistic outlets, preferred

Editorial Associate

Americas Society and Council of the Americas (AS/COA) seek an editorial associate with demonstrated digital media experience and knowledge of Latin America to join AS/COA Online, the team of our website (as-coa.org). In addition to bringing experience crafting social media and online content, the person should be able to manage competing demands across departments and three U.S. offices.

AS/COA are sister organizations that bring together the public and private sectors to discuss critical issues affecting the Western Hemisphere and to advance their common agenda of economic and social development, open markets, the rule of law, and democracy in the region.

Key responsibilities
Editorial: Write and produce content for AS/COA Online, such as explainers, updates, infographics and trackers, Q&As, video pages, and podcasts. Support first edits, copyedits, and proofing of website content.
Website updates and CMS management: Make updates to homepage and content across the site, troubleshooting website bugs.
Social media: Promote, create graphics and clips, and post content about AS/COA’s publications and events to organizations’ main social media profiles. Play a central role in AS/COA’s social media strategy and staying informed of best social media practices across platforms.
Photo research: Conduct photo research for licensed images to accompany AS/COA content and events, and provide photo selection and editing support to other departments.
External communications: Support programs teams’ content needs by copyediting event and conference descriptions, with an eye to consistency and SEO best practices. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to promote priority public events and broadcasts.
Qualifications
Minimum two years professional experience with online media, editing, and updating web content. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style preferred.
Excellent English-language writing and editing skills. Written and verbal Spanish skills strongly preferred. Knowledge of Latin America, especially South America, preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of social media, particularly when it comes to increasing followers and engagement, community management, and creating effective marketing tools. Extensive experience with Twitter and LinkedIn a plus.
Experience with Adobe CS, Mailchimp, Canva, Slack, task management tools such as Trello, basic HTML, and data visualization tools such as Infogram. Audio and video editing experience a plus.
Ability to meet deadlines, communicate progress, and be detail oriented a must.
BA or MA in journalism, communications, or other relevant field.

Type Investigations, formerly The Investigative Fund, incubates high-impact investigative reporting that holds the powerful accountable. We work with independent investigative reporters to produce deeply reported journalism that we publish in partnership with a wide variety of print, broadcast and digital media outlets. Our editors provide diverse freelance reporters with expert editorial guidance, a team of researchers, and funds to cover their travel, time and other reporting costs. We are part of a larger media nonprofit called Type Media Center, which also has a nonfiction book imprint, and several award and fellowship programs.
We are looking for an entry-level researcher and fact-checker with a deep interest in investigative journalism. Our research program offers rigorous training in key investigative skills, with many opportunities for mentorship and special projects tailored to the interests of the researcher. Researchers will work closely with our team of editors to do in-depth investigative research, fact-check investigations, and conduct originality searches on story proposals. Researchers will also be expected to assist generally with the operations of Type Investigations, including occasional web production and writing our monthly newsletter in collaboration with editors. There may also be occasional opportunities to edit and report, although the ideal applicant should have a passion for research and fact-checking specifically.
Desired qualifications:

Reporting to the Editor in Chief, the Enterprise Editor will assign, guide, and edit stories, as well as report and write a handful per year.
