Foundation & Endowment Intelligence is seeking an experienced reporter to cover the investment activity of foundations and endowments. The reporter will be responsible for producing two stories per day for the website, as well as two front-page-quality stories a month for the print edition. Strong emphasis will be placed on consistently producing high-quality analytical, trend- or data-driven front-page articles.

Topics to be covered range from investment mandates to people moves and investment strategies. The reporter will be expected not just to report available mandates, but to also dig deeper into what is driving them and what is likely to drive them in the future.

The position requires strong source-development skills and the ability to provide consistent breaking news, as well as enterprise stories relevant to our readers. Managing Editor

The Texas Observer has an opening for a managing editor. We are looking for someone who is passionate about Texas politics and culture, and who can thrive at a progressive nonprofit organization with a national profile that includes a 2015 National Magazine Award. The managing editor oversees production of the monthly magazine. That means cultivating relationships with freelance contributors, coordinating stories with the art-graphics-layout team, and managing the magazine budget.

News / research assistant

The American Public Media business program *Marketplace* seeks a news assistant for its bureau in Shanghai. The candidate must be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China.

The successful candidate does not need experience in journalism—but you will have to think like a journalist. We are looking for a Chinese assistant who speaks excellent English. You are someone who is very good at communicating with people from all walks of life and feels comfortable enough in your own skin so that you can confidently approach potential sources with ease, knowing how to handle yourself in a professional manner.

You’ll need to think creatively and analytically. When you are asked to think of an original angle to a news story, you do not copy what other news outlets have already reported. Instead, you do the hard research, synthesize the information, and come up with a fresh angle and potential sources yourself, and you do so quickly and efficiently. You need to be able to quickly and accurately translate interviews from Chinese to English.

You need to be confident, but not arrogant. Most importantly, you need to be trust-worthy, honest, and someone who thinks of others with compassion.

The work includes transcribing interviews and translating them from Chinese to English, arranging interviews, finding good sources for stories, and doing thorough research to find original, thought-provoking stories. You’ll have to do all of this efficiently and accurately, as we're a fast-paced news organization. The work also includes managing administrative tasks for the bureau.

*Location:* Shanghai. Occasional travel throughout China will be required.
