Digital Media Designer

Salon Media (publisher of Salon.com) is hiring a full-time digital media designer with 2-3 year of experience to work in our NYC office. We are a fast-paced, high-volume editorial environment and we want a talented professional who is pro-active, efficient, and proficient. The ideal candidate will be skilled in Photoshop, Illustrator, and interactive graphics and data visualizations using javascript and HTML5.
The designer will be responsible for creating interactive content from the bottom up, building interactivity for final use upon the site. This interactive content will include infographics and animated branding elements as well as modelled and rendered text treatments and graphics for our video team. The designer will also be responsible for generating artistic and eye-catching static images to be used as featured images for stories on the site, all while being faithful to Salon's voice and brand.
A diverse portfolio of dynamic work in Photoshop, Illustrator, and interactive media is required.

External Communications Manager

Required Qualifications

The External Communications manager must be an analytical, organized, resourceful, and highly responsible individual with a high degree of professionalism, and a flexible and collaborative spirit.

Experience working with media teams from corporates and international agencies
5+ years of communications experience using social media platforms, online content and related analytics tools (e.g., Keyhole, TweetDeck)
Team-orientation, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both collaboratively, independently, and virtually with teams across offices
Experience working on inter-agency communications groups with external partners
A solid understanding of international development, the global education landscape, international development and the private sector
Great attention to details and copy editing skills, with high standards of performance
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, personable, proactive and forward thinker open to new challenges in a dynamic working environment
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and juggle multiple tasks simultaneously

Copy Writer

We're looking for freelance copy-writing support for our e-commerce business, in the way of written text copy. The content will be used in a variety of ways, but for the most part it's to fuel online publishing.

A knowledge of sneakers and menswear is very important, so applications with this will be prioritized.

Video Producer / Journalist

The NationSwell Video Producer must be able to fully develop mission-aligned documentary content. This entails preproduction, high-quality shooting and editing and producing stories by coordinating with subjects, freelancers and gathering secondary materials such as images, relevant statistics from reliable sources and music. The video producer will also be actively involved in outreach and distribution by alerting relevant websites to new content, recutting content for Facebook publication and actively looking for and exploiting new distribution channels.

The video producer is also expected to pitch two to three new, mission-aligned and researched story ideas every month.

In addition to editorial work, the video producer will work on sponsored and partnership (branded) content. In executing this work, the video producer will need to seamlessly communicate with sources, corporate social responsibility-office contacts and our own NationSwell partnership team to ensure we are telling high-quality stories that satisfy the objectives of all parties involved.

The ideal applicant is a video journalist that has also successfully completed several branded projects.
