Job Description

Gizmodo is looking for a driven Staff Reporter to join our fast-paced newsroom. This position will focus on breaking news stories across multiple desks, including tech news, consumer tech, science, climate, and io9.

The ideal candidate for this position learns quickly on their feet, writes fast, clean copy, and is comfortable covering a wide variety of news topics central to Gizmodo’s mission. You can write with authority about the launch of a new Instagram feature, the spread of wildfires in California, the introduction of technology-focused legislation in Congress, or even the release date of a new sci-fi movie.

You can expertly parse press releases and PR statements with a critical eye, identify local news stories of interest to Gizmodo’s broad audience, and have impeccable fact-checking skills. In short, you have an innate sense of what makes a great story for Gizmodo and the ability to hit the news quickly, with confidence and voice.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
* 1-2 years experience writing news stories at a major print or digital publication; experience in covering technology- and science-related topics is a major plus
* Tack-sharp writing and grammar skills
* A strong understanding of the major companies, issues, and reader-focused concerns across the technology, science, and culture realms
* The ability to think quickly, decisively, and creatively in a newsroom environment
* Knowledge of journalistic standards, laws, and best reporting practices
* A good sense of humor and a quick wit are essential
