Asia Society is launching a new blog on its whyspeakchinese.org platform and is now recruiting students learning Chinese, Chinese students, and expats living in China for multiple positions.
WhySpeakChinese is an online media project that delivers news on Chinese entertainment, language, and modern cultural phenomenon to a global audience. Our global, cross-platform network includes our site, YouTube channel and Instagram account, as well as other digital platforms. Our news and entertainment serve the post-‘90s and ‘00s generation- an engaged, global audience that connects with culture and entertainment through digital platforms and video.
WhySpeakChinese is an online media project developed by the China Learning Initiatives, Center for Global Education at the Asia Society.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The WhySpeakChinese writing staff is involved in choosing various topics for content pieces for the WhySpeakChinese blog. As a writer, you are responsible for biweekly assignments and attending the biweekly pitch meetings.
In short, you will also be responsible for:
- Pitching ideas related to your specific content category.
- Writing a minimum of two content pieces every month.
This position will require a minimum 7-month commitment, from Nov 2018-May 2019. This is a REMOTE position.
Applicants do not need prior news writing experience to apply for this job. Applicants must be actively learning Chinese and/or living in China.
For Native Chinese writing staff only: You must be aware of current trends in pop culture, entertainment, Internet memes/ discussions, music, etc. Writers will be required to submit their content pieces in English.
