Features Intern

Woman’s Day is searching for enthusiastic spring interns to join its features department. We are looking for students working toward a degree in journalism or English, who are interested in women’s lifestyle magazines. Ideal candidates will be organized, creative, self-motivated, and passionate about the magazine.

Interns will work closely with our features team to research and brainstorm ideas for articles on personal finance, pets, women entrepreneurs, and women making a difference in their communities. Interns will also call in samples and handle reader mail.

Woman’s Day is one of the oldest women’s service magazines and staying connected with our reader base is very important. Previous relevant internship experience is preferred, but not required.

Depending on the days interns work, there are opportunities to attend production meetings and pitch meetings.

Editorial Intern

Latina Media Ventures is looking for a smart, enthusiastic interns for the spring 2015 semester. We are a small and growing company with a passion for creating and distributing great content.

Our interns will find a supportive staff of potential mentors who will help hone the skills of our interns and provide a great educational opportunity. We have interns that work on the magazine, in the beauty and fashion department, and with latina.com and thelatinkitchen.com.

Our spring interns will work closely with the magazine and website editors by assisting with research, developing story ideas, reaching out to readers, fact-checking, transcribing interviews, attending editorial meetings, writing digital stories, promoting on social media, and other editorial tasks. Our ideal candidate will have a passion for Latina culture and a love of magazines and media.

Intern, Arts & Culture

The Forward is seeking a talented, enthusiastic, motivated writer to serve as an intern on our arts & culture team. (Recent grads may apply.) The internship is geared towards students and recent graduates who are self-starters and show initiative in spotting and pursuing stories, have good critical-thinking skills, can synthesize information quickly and accurately, and don’t mind working long hours as part of a team to produce excellent stories. The internship may be for pay or for college credit.

Knowledge of contemporary Jewish issues and affairs and the Jewish arts scene is a plus. The ideal candidate will have had at least one journalism internship. He or she will have good writing and reporting skills and a background in arts and features reporting as well as writing. The internship will consist of a combination of assisting the arts and culture team with administration and research as well as developing stories on your own. The reporter should be able to spot stories of Jewish interest not covered in the mainstream media, or look for uncovered angles in those that do make the MSM.

The Arts & Culture intern will:

Write regularly for arts and features sections.
Attend art openings, film screenings, concerts, and so forth
Master the Forward’s content management system.
Contribute to special sections.
Post blogs and stories on the Web.
Help with proofing of the paper.
Write blog posts for The Arty Semite
Assist with web production on the blog and arts section
Assist with photo research
Assist with finding ways to make stories pop online with multimedia

The arts and culture intern will be encouraged to pitch stories for the paper and the blogs. He or she will also be encouraged to blog daily and work in the newsroom for a minimum of 10 weeks.

Editorial Intern

Stereogum is seeking NYC-based Editorial Interns for Spring 2015.

The Stereogum Editorial Internship is an exclusive program that accepts a small number of applicants each semester. The program is open to students currently enrolled in journalism and/or creative writing programs.

The internship offered here is multifaceted. The right applicant will be involved with all aspects of the site's editorial and production process, which includes (but is not limited to): assisting writers and editors with research, transcription, and reporting; assembling posts in the site's admin; curating photo galleries; setting up video and audio streams; vetting new artists for coverage; assisting in curation and assembly of live events; and of course writing for Stereogum.

The right applicant will be highly ambitious and deeply plugged into new music, with goals to work in music journalism and/or the field of music. He or she should be a skilled writer with some web background as well as social media savvy.

Stereogum Editorial Interns are expected to work two (2) full days per week; schedules are flexible, however, and will be based on both parties’ needs and availability. Editorial Interns should have access to a laptop and smartphone; additionally, it wouldn’t hurt to own a digital camera and digital audio recorder.

Web Editorial Intern

CountryLiving.com is seeking an hard-working, enthusiastic editorial intern for the spring 2015 semester. This internship will be a very hands-on experience working closely with our small web editorial team, and duties include pitching and writing/reporting story ideas, building content in our CMS, conducting editorial research, and helping to manage our social media accounts.

Our ideal candidate will have an interest in and enthusiasm for home decorating, food, and crafting, as well as be a fast learner with excellent grammar skills. Candidates must have previous journalism experience; prior web and Photoshop experience a plus!

Editorial Internship

Mashable is seeking ambitious and motivated undergraduate (juniors and seniors) and graduate-level Editorial Features interns for winter 2014, continuing into spring 2015. The internship will begin in November 2014.

The ideal team member is brimming with original ideas about the very latest web trends, conversation and culture, with a special interest in curating media-rich lists and developing essays and trend pieces. He or she will be a self-starter, prepared with an abundance of original content ideas at all times.

As an Editorial intern you will have the opportunity to work with and learn from Mashable writers and editors in Mashable's NYC headquarters. Responsibilities include research, fact checking, copy editing and writing.

REDBOOK Web Editorial Intern

Redbookmag.com is seeking hard-working, go-getter interns for spring 2015. Duties include pitching and writing newsy items, writing one to two pieces of original, long-lead content each week, building content in our CMS, conducting research, and contributing to social media. This internship is an amazing opportunity to show off and refine your digital and editorial chops while working closely with a small team.

Candidates must have previous journalism experience and be able to receive college credit. Preference will be given to those with national magazine or digital experience, strong writing samples, and good availability. Interest in and enthusiasm for women’s lifestyle content is a must!

Web Editorial Internship with a Focus on Food

The editorial team at Delish.com, Hearst Digital Media’s (HDM) food and recipe web site, is seeking interns to assist in ALL THINGS FOOD: day-to-day research, editing recipes in our content management system, writing and reporting, promotional tout writing, and brainstorming. The candidate must have a love of food, a familiarity with recipes, an eye for detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. Prior web experience is a plus.

In exchange for hard work and effort, you will receive exceptional experience and an open door of opportunity at one of the publishing industry’s most influence companies, Hearst Digital Media (HDM). HDM is willing to work with students’ schedules, but candidates must commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week. This is an unpaid internship, for which you must receive school credit.

Journalism Internship

Established international print magazine is seeking editorial interns for the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semester. This is a 13 week unpaid internship where you will be assisting on-site both at our Midtown office and at the United Nations. Generally our interns will be asked to assist no more than five days a month for three hours a day. You will not have a fixed schedule, but you will be expected to assist as needed barring school and health related scheduling conflicts.
