Editorial/ Research Internship

SAVEUR MAGAZINE EDITORIAL/RESEARCH INTERNSHIP

Saveur is currently looking for a research intern with a fluency in Mandarin for their fall editorial internship.

Interns will begin in early September and will work with Saveur's small, close-knit editorial staff for three months. Intern responsibilities will include researching, fact-checking, reporting and writing for the magazine as well as occasional administrative assistance.

Interns attend editorial meetings and tastings. They become intimate with all aspects of magazine production from start to finish and have the opportunity to develop connections with magazine editors, writers, and well-known people in the food world. This is a great opportunity to gain real world research experience, potentially publish short pieces, learn about the editorial side of the culinary world and to build contacts in magazine publishing.

Candidates must have excellent researching and writing skills, a demonstrated interest food and publishing and must be fluent in Mandarin.

We ask that our fall intern come in for two full, consecutive days a week. This is an unpaid internship. Credit is optional.

Online Intern - Viewpoint

Current’s digital team for “Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer” develops content that complements and expands upon the “Viewpoint” television experience. We create and optimize video, blogs and interactive experiences on Current.com, Current’s social media networks and the “Viewpoint” website (http://current.com/shows/viewpoint/).

As a student intern on the “Viewpoint” digital team you will have a unique hands-on learning experience where your contribution and ideas will be encouraged.

Responsibilities:

-Assist in the production and editing of online videos related to “Viewpoint”
-Contribute original digital content such as blog posts and image galleries
-Assist with creation and execution of social media content
-Think strategically and brainstorm with the team about online trends and how to best apply them to original content produced for Current.com and the “Viewpoint” site
-Some administrative tasks in support of the team, as necessary

Requirements:
-Proficiency with Final Cut Pro; experience shooting and editing video content for the web

-Basic Adobe Photoshop skills (at minimum, an ability to select and crop images, with basic editing)

-Experience producing content for the web, including blogging and headline writing

-Familiarity with AP Style

-Strong knowledge of online content, social media trends and best practices in the digital space a plus

-Extremely strong organizational skills and attention to detail

-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple work streams

-Passion for political news commentary and elections coverage a major plus

-Enrollment in an accredited college/university and the ability to earn school credit for your internship. Graduate students highly encouraged to apply.

Beauty Editorial Intern

DailyMakeover.com is looking for a creative, ambitious intern to assistant the editorial department. Must have a strong interest in beauty, fashion, style and celebrity trends. Responsibilities would include coding content, resourcing images, pitching story ideas and lots of bylines! Hours are flexible, but we’d like a minimum of a 10 hour per week commitment. Stipend will be offered.

Online Intern - The War Room

As a student intern on the War Room digital team you will have a unique hands-on learning experience doing the following:

Responsibilities

- Assist in the production of digital videos from the War Room for posting on Current.com and Current social media properties

- Contribute original digital content such as blog posts and image galleries

Broadcast Intern

Al Jazeera English is seeking two interns in our New York/United Nations bureau for the Fall Semester. The intern will help produce live interviews, news packages and feature stories. Responsibilities include research, pitching stories, attending press conferences, and helping with anything in the field. Other duties include technical tasks such as logging tape, researching archival footage, light editing on Final Cut Pro, coordinating transmissions of tape to other bureaus, and limited administrative work. Interest in international news is required.

The position is part-time for 3 to 4 months. Hours are flexible and will vary depending on intern availability and news of the day, but a normal day begins at 9am and ends at 5pm. Interns will work at the UN office and the NY office.

Editorial Intern

Editorial Intern

Attributes/skills: The ideal candidate will be a quick learner and have some experience with medicine and/or journalism.

WWD Summer Style Interns

WWD's daily style section seeks summer interns to assist in its coverage of New York society, culture and entertainment. Interns will have the opportunity to develop their own reporting and writing with spot event coverage and are encouraged to pitch feature ideas. Interns will also assist in day-to-day newsroom duties.

J-14 Magazine Summer Editorial Internship

J-14 Magazine, the top-selling teen entertainment magazine on newsstands, is searching for enthusiastic and pop-culture savvy interns to work with our editorial department during the summer semester/break. Responsibilities include transcribing celebrity interviews, researching stories, responding to reader mail, and working closely with the editors on stories in entertainment, real life, beauty, and fashion.

Additional opportunities include conducting interviews, generating news items and blogging for J14.com, and updating J-14’s Twitter and Facebook pages. Internships are unpaid but can be counted for college credit.

MetroFocus Intern

Immediate opportunities are available on a rolling basis for interns to support the MetroFocus website and TV show. We are seeking students who are working towards a college degree in liberal arts, journalism, business, digital media, web production, communications or a related field.

Ideal candidates will have a strong academic record; excellent communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; willingness to do administrative tasks; the ability to juggle multiple duties; and a passionate interest in NYC news, policy issues, culture and public media.

RESPONSIBILITITES

Interns will be expected to keep abreast of current events and news, pitch story ideas and events for inclusion in the website, “cover” specific blogs and pitch original contributions to the site that they can write or produce. Interns may also assume specific specialized assignments depending on length of internship and strengths and talents of each candidate:

Articles: Research, fact-check, copyedit and write stories for publication (Required: superior writing, usage, storytelling and reporting skills)
Video: Assist in video production: shoot and edit video (Required: Proficiency in shooting video and Final Cut Pro video-editing skills)
Photography: Track down photos, use Photoshop, create photo-galleries and slideshows. (Required: Proficient in Photoshop)
Business development: Research and prepare meetings and follow up for potential content and marketing partners (Required: Superior interpersonal skills, proficiency in PowerPoint)
Social media/PR: Assist with public relations events and social media outreach and success. (Required skills: Advanced knowledge of Twitter, Facebook and other social media and familiarity with various evolving platforms to track social media reach: e.g. Bit.ly, Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, SocialFlow, Backtype, Klout, Score.ly)

All interns also provide other manners of production support, including:

Conducting business development outreach and follow up to outside organizations and media companies for content sharing and marketing cross-promotion.
Coordinating PR events.
Performing other production operations, story research and reporting under the direction of the Executive Producer/Editor-in-Chief or other key staff.

Essential skills and qualifications for all interns include:

Strong interpersonal skills, including ease and professionalism on the phone and in person. Candidates must feel comfortable cold-calling people inside and outside the company for information.
Solid knowledge of grammar, punctuation and the basics of reporting, fact checking and journalistic ethics and standards.
Excellent written communications and business etiquette. Proficiency in MS Office: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and in Outlook calendar management.

Familiarity with WordPress
Basic understanding of evolving web, social media and SEO best practices

ELIGIBILITY

MetroFocus Internships are open to students currently enrolled at accredited colleges or universities. All interns are required to show proof of current student enrollment. WNET will gladly assist with any required paperwork for students seeking school credit for their internship work.

COMMITMENT AND SCHEDULING

Scheduling is flexible, with preference given to students willing to commit for longer internships, but it requires 20 hours per week.
