Interns will spend their time working on short and feature-length stories for the magazine, writing for our email newsletters and working on our website, newyorkfamily.com. Intern

BBC's Education division in New York is looking for creative interns to assist with producing short form videos for the educational market. Interns will have a unique opportunity to be fully involved in multiple aspects of production including research, editing, rights and clearances, pitching and business development. Interns will have an opportunity to work directly on projects with the education coordinators and production manager. Students curious about British and American factual broadcast history will find this internship particularly interesting. Excel, Outlook, and Final Cut Pro skills are a plus but are not required, however a willing interest to learn and take on new challenges is essential. Scheduling is flexible with a minimum weekly commitment of 10 hours that can broken up across multiple days of the week anytime between 8 am and 8 pm.

Intern

The Jewish Daily Forward is seeking a full-time arts and features intern to work in its newsroom. Internship candidates should be familiar with Jewish pop culture news and have a strong knowledge of Jewish arts and culture. The intern will write several blog posts daily for the Forward’s Shmooze and Arty Semite blogs. Other responsibilities will include light editing, gathering story ideas and finding photographs. Journalism Intern for Entertainment Website

BackStage.com is seeking journalism interns for the Spring 2011 semester, as well as Summer 2011. We're interested in responsible, self-motivated, tech-savvy college students with sharp writing skills. Interns MUST work in exchange for school credit, and be available for at least 16-20 hours per week.

Interns will get the opportunity to do research, write news and feature stories, post on our weblog, update our events calendar, and learn about publishing on the Web in a professional environment. Work on online videos and other interactive projects may also be included.

In addition, we're looking for interns to work exclusively as bloggers, getting experience creating regular content either for a pop-culture blog (www.backstage.com/blogstage) or for a news aggregator blog (www.backstage.com/espresso).

Knowledge of MS Word and Excel, and experience using the Internet for research is required. Knowledge of photo editing software like Photoshop, weblog and video editing software, and social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace are preferred. Familiarity with the performing arts industry -- film, TV, and stage -- is helpful.

Spring Editorial Internship

Field & Stream is looking for students to join our editorial department as interns during the spring semester. Responsibilities will include fact-checking, research, and assisting editors with projects as they come up--but it's all real editorial work. Depending on ability and experience, interns may also have the opportunity to write short bylined pieces for the magazine or website.
Requirements: Must be energetic, organized, responsible, and able to follow direction. Some editing or writing experience is a prerequisite, and an interest in hunting or fishing is a plus. Interns must be available for a minimum of two days per week, from 9 am to 5 pm.
Note: You must receive undergraduate or graduate credit for the internship. This position is unpaid. However, we will supply interns with Metrocards.

Scholastic Parent & Child magazine is looking for a spring semester intern to start in January 2011.

Intern responsibilities include: Interview authors, actors, musicians, etc. for website; write product reviews and other small pieces for website; request product samples for photo shoots; respond to reader inquiries and requests; research and fact-checking; assist processing of author assignments and contracts; attend and contribute to staff meetings; attend and assist as needed at photo shoots and press events; provide general administrative support. NBC NEWS has 3 openings for Spring interns at theGrio.com.

TheGrio is NBC’s video-centric news website dedicated to producing stories of African-American interest. At just over one year old, the site is one of NBC News’ fastest growing new ventures – with a dedicated audience of loyal users.

Intern candidates for theGrio should have a strong interest in African-American news and culture. They should have experience in web production, publishing and writing for the web, and editing on Avid. Experience shooting and producing original video content is preferred.

In a tight-knit and fast-paced work environment much like many Internet start-ups, theGrio’s interns will gain hands-on experience running the website. They will also have the opportunity to assist digital journalists and the site’s editors with pre-production, fieldwork and editing multiple 2 – 3 minute daily news packages that will live on the site – and are often broadcast on NBC affiliates and other platforms.

Interns are also relied upon for their social media skills. A high comfort level with Facebook and twitter is a must. Strong news judgment skills will be needed for monitoring the wires, web, and partners for content.

This is a non-paid position with an approximate end date of May 2011. Interns must receive college credit and must be able to work at least two days a week
