NewsNation Broadcast News Writer (Weekends)

NewsNation is seeking a news writer who is responsible for all aspects of writing for the network's national news broadcasts. The position is based in Chicago.

Responsibilities include writing stories for the television newscast; desk-top editing video for stories; working with the feed room to coordinate live shots from reporters and photographers in the field; plus writing graphics and topic bars. In addition to writing, the writer will contribute creative ideas for broadcasts.

NewsNation Associate Producer

The NewsNation Associate Producer is responsible for helping to research and report stories, gather editorial elements, build graphics, liaise with reporters and assignment desk to create segments for assigned shows.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct research and pitch stories
Gather editorial elements including video, audio and user-generated content
Build and copy edit graphics and banners
Work with correspondent on executing live shots
Liaise with the assignment desk to facilitate requests for elements and or affiliate live shots

Requirements & Skills:
2-3 years’ experience in national or major-market news
BA/BS degree or equivalent degree in journalism or related field
Strong writing skills required
Ability to create dynamic graphic and video elements
Must be self-directing, self-motivating and able to work will with a diverse group of people.
Interact well with on-air talent, news managers, videographers, production, digital and engineering staff
Detail-oriented
Excellent verbal, written, grammar and analytical skills
Exhibit strong news judgment
Handle stress, including short deadlines
Work at a computer for extended periods of time
Must be able to work assigned shifts and be on call during overnights, mornings and weekends/holidays
Perform other tasks as assigned by news management.

New York Correspondent

Your job will be covering the state agencies that are overseeing New York’s goal of reducing economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions 40% percent from 1990 levels by 2030. That includes the New York Public Service Commission, the Climate Action Council, the governor, the legislature and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the New York Power Authority.

You also will cover the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), which manages the state’s electric grid and wholesale electric markets — a combination of an air traffic controller and the New York Stock Exchange. You’ll be covering NYISO stakeholder meetings in Rensselaer. You'll also be writing up filings with, and rulings by, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (www.ferc.gov) plus enterprise stories (new technologies; climate change policy, etc.)

Digital Editor

The award-winning Bronx Times, publishers of the Bronx Times and Bronx Times Reporter weekly newspapers, and bxtimes.com daily website, is seeking an innovative digital editor with reporting experience and an ability to think big to join its new energetic staff in the midst of an editorial transformation underway since mid-2021.

Our vision for the position is a hybrid one blending some editor functions with the opportunity for writing and reporting – breaking news, crime reporting, spot beat coverage or the occasional snapshot profile. If you have an ability to multitask and strong organizational skills, we want you.

Reproductive Health Reporter

The Supreme Court’s decision on abortion rights is one of the most highly anticipated rulings in decades. Hanging in the balance is not only Mississippi’s ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy but the future of access to reproductive rights nationwide. The Gulf States Newsroom recognizes the importance of covering this story and the unique opportunity we have as a team based in the region. We’re hiring a reporter position, based in Jackson, Mississippi, to cover the abortion case and its ripple effects from the state at the heart of this monumental case.

This reporter will be based in Jackson, Mississippi, employed by MPB and will report to the managing editor of the Gulf States Newsroom. This reporter will join a team of award-winning regional reporters and editors who cover health care, wealth and poverty and race and equity. They will pitch in on local coverage of their beat for MPB and will have the opportunity to file for NPR often. A spirit of collaboration is key! This is year-long contract position. A longer term may be possible if funding is available.

In addition to the case and the broad national debate over abortion rights, this reporter will have the opportunity to cover many other stories about reproductive, maternal and infant health in the South. This position will also have a focus on community engagement. We hope to experiment with ways to do outreach and distribute stories to those most affected.
