Broadcast Desk Assistant

The Desk Assistant (DA) position is part of a six-month entry-level program aimed at providing practical experience in a broadcast news setting. The DAs are exposed to all aspects involved in producing a nightly television news program. Desk Assistant duties are rotational among the different units that compose the NewsHour.

Over the course of the program, each of the 8 Desk Assistants hired will work in 3 different units for a period of two months each. They also act as support staff for Senior Producers, Associate Producers, Reporters and Production Assistants, by answering phones, sorting mail, distributing paper and other administrative tasks. Finally, Desk Assistants will attend a series of breakfasts with various members of our organization including correspondents, producers, and reporters.

Writer

The writer will participate in the brainstorming sessions that are part of the process to produce insights that end up published in articles, magazines, on-line and/or books. The person must be able to organize information from different sources and propose the order and sequence of the document being produced.

Digitally Savvy Assistant Photo Editor

The Assistant Photo Editor will be assisting Slate’s photo team with the creation of slideshow essays as well as a new photo blog. An ideal candidate is equally comfortable with words and images. The job will require writing humorous and insightful captions and searching across the Web for powerful and unusual images. You must be equally comfortable navigating Reddit, Instagram and the Library of Congress archive.

We are looking for someone with previous experience writing for the Web, be it a blog or Tumblr. We are also looking for someone who has demonstrated experience working with images and creating slideshows. This is a part-time freelance position. If you are located in New York, we may have you work out of our office, but we are open to candidates anywhere in the world.

Writer, Donor Relations

The Donor Relations Writerworks collaboratively as a member of the Development & the Jimmy Fund team to help the division meet an annual goal of $150,000,000+. The Donor Relations Writer creates scientific narrative reports for VIP donor base consisting of individual, foundation, and corporate donors.

* As a member of the writing team, research, write, and edit scientific narrative reports for distribution to top-tier donors and event managers;
* Coordinate efforts with the Donor Relations team and appropriate prospect managers to produce, in a timely fashion, user-friendly reports on clinical, research, and program areas at DFCI;
* Conduct interviews, draft, and edit reports for researchers, clinicians, and cancer care professionals;
* Work closely with prospect managers to develop appropriate tone, content, and donor approach;
* Interact with all DFCI divisions/departments.
* Utilize the EMS narrative report module and other management tools and systems to house and utilize information for donor reports for the Institute;
* Conduct interviews, research, and write stories for donor newsletter, Impact;
* Play key role in the creation of unique program briefs, proposals, and marketing collateral for disease centers and Institute strategic initiatives for prospective donors as appropriate;

Job Qualifications

Bachelors degree in English or related field required. Three to five years experience in development and/or writing required. Superior written and editorial skills are required. Schedule

Monday- Friday, Full time 8:30 - 5:00. Some weekend and evening work may be required.

Junior Reporter - New York Law Journal

The job of Junior Reporter at the New York Law Journal is a terrific opportunity for an intelligent and ambitious young reporter willing to take on a wide range of topics under the supervision of senior editors.

The junior reporter will produce weekly articles on corporate mergers and acquisition, and frequent articles on laws schools, pro bono work, court decisions and other features, including obituaries. The reporter will also gather and organize information for annual surveys; handle research and fact-checking, provide supplementary reporting for long-term projects and support senior reporters as needed.

The junior reporter is also required to handle a range of administrative duties on a daily basis, including answering incoming calls to the NYLJ, directing customer calls, obtaining rights agreements from NYLJ columnists and booking conference rooms for special meetings.
