Overview:
The Business Reporter, at the direction of the Business & Economics Editor, supports the strategic goals for expanding daily coverage of business news stories, focusing on local, regional and national news presented with a New York perspective and highlighting topics that drive the “New York Conversation.”
The Business Reporter will regularly file broadcast and Web stories. These stories will range from shorter, daily news segments to longer features. The Business Reporter must have knowledge of economic, finance and business and collaborate with reporters and producers at WNYC as well as sources outside of the station.
This is a four month temporary position.
Responsibilities:
Report, produce and write for WNYC broadcast programs and Web site to include pitching and reporting original stories as well as filing reports based on news of the day
Produce complimentary web reporting including active use of social media
Cover various beats while delivering substantive reports
Deliver live and taped 2-ways with hosts
Gather information as well as audio for programs
Work with other producers, editors to provide information
Attend digital team and newsroom editorial meetings
Ability to work extended hours as needed, including some evenings and weekends, and may be required to be on-call at times

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required
2-4 years broadcast journalism experience with special emphasis on business and economic news
Breaking news experience a plus
Broadcast and web news writing, reporting and copy editing, required
Knowledge of broadcast audio editing, online production and skills
Self-starter with proven ability to meet deadlines and pay close attention to detail and fact-checking
Ability to plan for future events and enterprise original stories or coverage angles
Impeccable journalistic integrity and editorial judgment, required
Ability to develop a comprehensive vision and lead others toward it, required
Willingness and ability to learn new skills and concepts as necessary, preferred
Ability to manage several projects concurrently
This position requires use of a computer, telephone and other office and/or broadcast equipment; ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods
Excellent communication skills—both oral and written—with an impressive reputation for building and maintaining relationships with people at all levels of an organization, across a diverse range of cultural, generational, ethnic, racial, educational and social backgrounds
Requires the intellectual and emotional depth, maturity, self-confidence and interpersonal skills to work effectively and/or interact with other staff at New York Public Radio
