Each year, Moment identifies and supports a talented young journalist who already has significant reporting experience. The fellow works alongside our senior staff, developing his or her magazine journalism skills and becoming more sophisticated in his or her understanding of the Middle East, U.S. politics and other related subjects. The fellow does everything other staff members do, from administrative tasks to researching and writing a major feature story. Some fellows have written several. The General Assignment Editor, at the direction of the Managing Editor, supports the strategic content goals for the WNYC Web site, developing and curating content with a focus on local, regional and national news presented with a New York perspective and highlighting topics that are driving the daily “New York Conversation.”

S/he coordinates activities with the WNYC newsroom and WNYC-produced local and national shows, continues the evolution, development and placement of coverage online, executes the goal for diverse voices and perspectives on the site and works as part of a talented editorial team on the daily execution of online content.

The General Assignment Editor is responsible for delivering content that is viable, sustainable and meets the mission and goals of WNYC and the promise to readers and listeners. General Purpose:
WNYC is seeking an exceptional writer-blogger to lead a political news blog focused on New York State.

The writer-blogger will be charged with building a dedicated online following around coverage of New York City and New York state politics, Albany’s lawmakers, City and state budgetary issues and the governor’s office. The position requires that the writer-blogger portray the stakeholders and issues in a thought-provoking manner, connecting policy and reforms enacted in Albany and New York City to a national and local political narrative. The writer-blogger will be expected to establish him/herself as a leading authority on state political matters as well as convey a smart, conversational tone.

This position requires a demonstrated ability to cultivate sources, generate story ideas, identify important trends in state and national politics and the usage of tools to collect and verify information through sourcing and fact-checking.

This position may be based in New York City or Albany, New York, with some travel expected.

The position entails copy editing, proofreading, some fact-checking, and developing and maintaining production schedules. Teach Journalism in Germany next summer

I'm looking for a teaching assistant or co-instructor for a journalism study abroad course I'm teaching next summer.

The 3-week course is being offered through a New York City area university and will take place in Germany from approximately late May to mid June 2012. Students will learn about (and practice) travel writing and foreign correspondence. You will give lectures, work with students one-on-one and provide feedback.

In addition, you will need to meet with the students and me at least a couple times in Spring 2012. So, you should live in the New York City area or be within commuting distance.

Fluency in German is an absolute must - please do not apply unless you speak German fluently. You must have at least a bachelor's degree and some experience in journalism.

Preference given to candidates who have spent time in Germany, have multimedia skills (including shooting and editing video and digital photography) have teaching experience and/or have travel writing or foreign correspondence experience.

The position pays well. In addition to receiving a salary, the TA/co-instructor will have all expenses covered, including airfare and accommodations in Germany.
