Editorial Tech-Journalism Paid Internship: Computer Shopper

Does the idea of working with—and writing about—the latest tech products before they hit store shelves excite you? Is tinkering with your PC your passion? Computer Shopper (www.computershopper.com), a Ziff-Davis property and a leading online guide to PC and consumer technology, is looking for an Editorial Intern for spring 2017. We’re based in mid-Manhattan (28th Street) and have a 38-year legacy (first in print, now exclusively online) of providing deep buying advice and detailed reviews of the latest computer and consumer technology products.

Our interns work in concert with our editors and the editor-in-chief, assisting with research, developing Web-production skills, and writing for the site. They will be expected to aid in tech-product testing (according to established scripts and guidelines) and Web-production tasks. The right candidate will also have the opportunity to accumulate digital clips by writing product reviews and contributing to feature stories on ComputerShopper.com. Previous interns have moved on to become freelance writers for us and other tech-related outlets, and many have landed jobs in digital journalism as a direct result of the skills they acquired with us.

This is a paid internship at $11 per hour. Alternately, we can also arrange for departmental credit, if the student desires that instead.

An essential qualification for this internship is an abiding and demonstrable interest in PC technology. Further requirements:

∙ Highly professional demeanor and good spoken-communication skills.
∙ Undergraduate or graduate degree in progress (or recently completed) in English, communications, journalism, or a related field.
∙ Excellent English writing/grammar skills and attention to detail.
∙ Fluency with Windows PCs and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and performing Web research.
∙ Familiarity with (and enthusiasm for) social media.

The accepted candidate will be expected to commit to a working schedule of 10 to 15 hours per week (hours flexible) in our midtown offices. Start/end dates of internship are flexible, but the rough expectation is that the internship will run from February through mid May.
