Jounalism Summer Internship

Positions include researchers, data journalists, videographers, graphic designers and web producers. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply. Preferred majors include journalism, communication, film, public policy, public health, history or economics.
The stipend for all positions is $20 an hour for 30 hours per week. Positions run from 7 to 10 weeks, with flexible start dates, depending on the end date of an individual student's spring semester. All IRW internships typically end by early August. Housing and transportation are not provided.

Audio Intern, Summer

USA TODAY is seeking an audio intern to join the podcast team for the summer.

The position is open to recent grads.

We’re looking for a person who can pitch stories and guests, research and write stories, create prep docs for hosts on topics and edit interviews and shows in Audition.

This person will be adept at identifying stories that can be expanded into audio-form or merit in-depth conversations/round table discussions with guests and USA TODAY reporters.

As part of USA TODAY's nimble podcast team, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with all sections of the newsroom to produce weekly in-depth podcast episodes on the 5 Things podcast.

This 10-week long summer internship role will involve working 37.5 hours per week. Work from home and/or the ability to work from one of our offices is allowed.

Minimum Salary: $15.00 per hour

Responsibilities:

Produce and edit audio stories daily, including script writing.
Contribute audio stories, episodes to USA TODAY’s flagship daily news podcast, 5 Things.
Utilize analytics to make informed decisions for storytelling and to measure success.
Produce related digital content for USA TODAY’s platforms.
Execute audience development for USA TODAY podcasts.
Produce assets for use on social media – audio, video and graphics.
Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment, post-offer background check.
Requirements:

Experience working on a podcast.
Experience and proficiency using Adobe Audition or another comparable non-linear digital audio editing software.
Experience and proficiency recording interviews using an online platform such as Riverside.
Script writing experience.
Solid research skills.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Candidates should be working toward a degree in art/design.
