The Magazine ANTIQUES and MODERN Magazine are seeking an editorial intern to join our team this summer. The position offers firsthand experience in magazine publishing, and includes a variety of tasks such as assisting editors with proofing, posting content to our websites and social media platforms, conducting research, updating our database, and drafting stories and posts.

Editorial Internship

Psychology Today has an excellent opportunity for a few smart and talented editorial interns at our office in New York. We are a small staff, so you’ll be a key member of the team.

Interns pitch story ideas and write short articles for the magazine and the staff blog. They typically receive a byline each issue. Other duties include working closely with staff on story research and special projects, proofing print and online copy, helping to manage content on our website and blog network, and occasional transcription and light clerical work.

Journalism experience and an interest in human behavior required. Background in psychology and/or experience writing science stories not mandatory, but a major plus. Must be able to juggle several tasks at once and work autonomously.

Position runs May through August, 2-5 days a week.

Video Intern

The SB Nation video team in New York is seeking a qualified intern for Summer 2016. Prospective intern should expect to work hands-on with various aspects of video production, from pre-production to publication. This internship will include working with our entire team to create content that appears on platform, YouTube, and our social pages. The intern will work with producers, directors, and editors through each phase of production to understand the processes used in digital media. They should expect to leave the internship with material for their reel, as well as listed credit in multiple SB Nation produced videos.

Interns will be paid and should demonstrate the following:

  • Desire to work with a fun, digital-first production team that emphasizes unique writing, distinct voice and commitment to our audience.
  • Interest in a career in video production, shown through either coursework, activity in campus productions, or internship at other publications. An interest in sports is encouraged.
  • Commitment to 20 hours per week working in the SB Nation office in midtown New York City for approximately 12 weeks during Summer 2016, beginning in May. Interns must provide their own transportation. Some assignments will require work outside of the office.
  • Enrollment at a local university in or near New York City as a graduate or undergraduate student.

Paid Journalism Intern

Journalism Interns mainly assist our Producers & Reporters with news-gathering & research efforts. (Credit is optional) Responsibilities may include:

- Work with producers and/ or reporters to help with story research
- Help producers develop a story pitch
- Research archival footage and photos
- Research primary source documents
- Research and procure headlines from the library and the web
- Learn to correctly label and organize archival photos and footage
- Search through public records and other sources to tracking down people important for the story
- Write interview questions on occasion
- Fact-check specific research, and help source information in a producer's script
- Assist staff camera man with set up and break down of interview shoots

Podcast Intern

The Ringer is seeking a summer intern to help with its audio podcasting network. This is a 12-week paid internship eligible for college credit. Candidate must be willing to work unconventional hours for the Los Angeles–based position. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in podcasts and be current or recent broadcasting, journalism, or production majors.

Position responsibility:

-Researches, contacts, books, and pre-interviews guests for producers and hosts
-Assists with basic editing
-Handles social media posts related to production content
-Communicates regularly with producers and hosts to coordinate show needs
-Assists with updating the planning calendar and recording schedule
-Transcribes audio when needed

Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:

-Full comprehension of audio production fundamentals: mic technique, signal flow, audio editing
-Stays at the forefront with culture and sports news
-Must have strong organizational and communication skills
-Ability to think critically and find relevant information from reliable sources

Preferred skills, knowledge, and abilities:

-Experience in audio journalism or production (radio station, newsroom)
-Proficiency with Pro Tools or similar programs
-Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud suite, including Photoshop and Premiere

Education Reporting Intern

The Hechinger Report, the nonprofit news outlet covering innovation and inequality in education, is looking for a reporting intern. The intern will research, conduct interviews and write about national education issues for our site and possibly for collaborating news organizations like TIME, The Atlantic and NPR.

This is a paid internship ($600/week).

Over the 12-week internship, our intern will produce a few in-depth stories on issues from early childhood education through adult education, as well as contribute at least biweekly news items, with the support of our experienced editors and reporters. Travel will likely be involved.

Intern will also be expected to help manage social media communications to promote Hechinger work and recruit more followers.

Requirements:

- Master's degree in journalism
- Skilled at writing for both print and online audiences
- Comfortable writing analysis pieces based on in-depth reporting.
- Able to understand and explain data to a general audience
- Experience doing research
- Basic knowledge of national education issues
- Photography/ multimedia experience

Experience developing social media networks is a plus.

Playboy Summer Internship

Playboy is seeking a summer intern to join our growing digital editorial department. This won’t be some coffee-fetching gig. Our intern will be an integral member of the team. They’ll attend staff meetings, produce articles, pitch ideas, write posts, source images, and assist editors with their stories.

The ideal candidate:
• Has reporting and writing experience (Journalism school or school newspaper)
• Reads men’s lifestyle magazines
• Stays current on news and pop culture
• Has a personal Twitter feed with engaged followers
• Can do basic photo editing (cropping and resizing)
• Is comfortable with reading and interpreting traffic analytics
• Has a GPA of 3.0 or above

 

Investment Research Internship

Background Information: Davidson Kempner’s Research Department does deep-dive, qualitative and some quantitative research in support of the fund’s investment strategies. The team draws upon a diversity of research skills and tools often used by journalists and investigative research firms. We work to discern the risks and opportunities presented by companies, sectors, and countries, and conduct due-diligence on companies and their management teams in various regions of the world.

Role Description: Conduct desk-top research into companies or industries, identity and interview useful sources, review public documents, and write reports summarizing the findings. Resourcefulness and skill at writing are required.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
Ideal candidate is competent at ferreting out information on a wide range of industries and companies and is a quick study. People who are curious, dogged, resourceful, and do not shy away from reaching out to people over the telephone will excel. A plus (but not pre-requisite) are foreign language skills. Spanish and, to a lesser extent, Portuguese are particularly valued as is having some familiarity with Latin America. Another plus is experience with database search programs, and/or statistical analysis.
