Run a local news site – reporting, writing, editing, assigning, taking pictures and video, maintaining an events calendar, maintaining a database of local business listings, getting users involved, and liaising with important community figures.

Required skills:

Recent community journalism experience
Ability to manage, direct, and motivate a team of freelancers.
Ability to manage a budget

Experience editing video, producing a Web site and/or excellent photography skills.
Must have a firm grasp of AP style.

Associate Editor for Editors-Books/Journals, Publishing

Edits and writes research, promotional, and Web content, as assigned.

• Works collaboratively with Senior Editors to help determine the status and acceptability of incoming research manuscripts and to advise authors on any necessary revisions.

• Provides regular project updates and maintains project progress reports to facilitate communications among departments and to help ensure efficient trafficking.

• Edits and coordinates release of selected periodicals, including online newsletters

• Proofreads galleys and checks blues.

• Assists in developing and carrying out other Publishing group initiatives.

Requires: At least 6 years of work experience editing and writing — preferably a significant amount of it in print/Web business publishing environments. A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal, writing, and leadership skills. Detail-oriented, extremely organized, and able to manage multiple priorities and projects. Experienced in working with design and production staffs. Able to cultivate relationships with senior researchers and other authors. Proficient in MS Word; Quark and PowerPoint a plus.

Web Copy-Editor (Part Time) for Dowser

We seek an Web Copy Editor with excellent editing skills, well-honed fact checking and research skills, familiarity with WordPress, and an interest in the field of social innovation. The Web Copy Editor will copy edit and upload articles and interviews to dowser.org.

Based in New York City, this is a part-time position (16-24 hours/week at $15/hour).

Responsibilities • Copy edit all written content on the site; ensure consistency in Dowser's engaging, fresh tone • Manage administrative tasks associated with keeping content and publishing calendar
organized • Fact check interviews and articles • Follow Dowser's style guidelines • Upload all posts to WordPress • Occasionally promote site content through social media

Video Blogger

We are seeking a Video Blogger to contribute to our video cheat sheet and write/edit aggregated video blogs. This is a job for someone with deep knowledge of political, entertainment, and celebrity news. A sharp point of view and writing that is ready for a national audience is essential.

The video blogger will scour the web for the buzziest viral videos, keep on top of breaking political news, and clip and edit the best moments from a variety of television programs. The ability to pick an interesting sound bite out of the cluttered media landscape is a must.

Knowledge of Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, familiarity with a standard CMS, and basic HTML is a plus, but more important is outstanding news judgment and writing ability. Successful candidates will possess at least 1 -2 years experience working for a media organization.

This is a part time opportunity. Please include the days/times you would be available in your application.
