Senior Social Editor — VICE News

As Social Editor for VICE News, you’ll work within a multi-disciplinary team to grow and engage our global audiences across our news-focused social platforms. You’ll have a strong editorial sense for short form storytelling and visual communication that resonates with our audience on platforms.

You’ll know how to take an idea and visually present it in a way that is optimised for social. You have the ability to think visually and socially about what will entice audiences to engage with a piece of content and provide consistent new ideas and concepts.

You have a background in news journalism and have a keen eye for not just a good story, but also think about angles and positioning to help make our output unique and provide value for our audiences. Responsibilities:

Manage the daily programming of content for VICE News on social platforms, liaising with the newsroom on programming ideas and working with teams across editorial and video on upcoming content.

Contribute to the creation of original content for our social channels, such as working with design to find the best way to transform an idea into a visual story.

Assist with weekly and monthly performance meetings with internal stakeholders; communicate performance insights to the newsroom in order to help drive editorial decisions and improve the impact of each team member’s work.

Work with video producers and editorial staff members to commission social video stories and capture live news reporting for Instagram Stories and TikTok.

Liaise with our platform partners and maintain relationships with news aggregators.

Requirements:

Enterprise Editor

Spectrum is looking for an Enterprise Editor who is ready to advance stories that include in-depth, revealing reporting - and are competitive in awards competitions.

Spectrum is an award-winning autism news site intended for scientists, although we are also read by many non-scientists.

The Spectrum Enterprise Editor's primary role will be to work with Spectrum's staff and freelancers to generate rich features and accountability journalism that engages researchers and clinicians who study and treat autism. This is a long-term, 40 hour/week contract gig. In this role, you'll write, assign, edit, work with the art department to create new (and update existing) digital articles, videos — any format, really, even print — for several large financial services clients. Come join us as the senior content editor for the Gulf States Newsroom!

We’re hiring a senior editor to help us identify strong stories and bolster the work we create as we work to reshape the public media landscape in this vital region. You’ll be part of a growing team of reporters covering health care, criminal justice, wealth and poverty and race and equity across the three states.

How It Works: The editor will be an employee of WBHM in Birmingham (remote work possible) and will report to the managing editor of the Gulf States Newsroom (also based in Birmingham). This editor will work with regional beat reporters and station news teams to identify stories, sharpen audio storytelling and develop in-depth enterprise stories that have regional and often national relevance. This is a grant-funded position with funding through October 2023. The Gulf States Newsroom intends to raise funds to sustain the position beyond that period.

Responsibilities:

Work with the Gulf States Newsroom managing editor, digital editor and station news directors to assign, budget and edit stories
Supervise one or two reporters on the team
Edit feature stories and projects produced by Gulf States Newsroom reporters
Work with managing editor to develop and edit long-form projects
Fill in for Gulf States Newsroom managing editor as needed
Provide editing support to stations as needed
Ensure that all content complies with NPR’s editorial standards

Required Skills:
