Ideasmyth is seeking an individual who has obtained or is pursuing an MFA in English for our Editorial Consultant position.This person will create and assist in the implementation of written content for Ideasmyth’s social media and web presence. They will also write and edit blog content to be published on our Ideablog. Other responsibilities include researching industry related topics and collaborating on ideas for weekly and monthly publications.

An ideal candidate has outstanding writing and editing credentials and is interested in accessible, contemporary blogging. The position is suited for MFA level students to experienced professionals. While this position is currently unpaid, the Editorial Consultant will have opportunities to develop relationships with new talent and network with industry leads. They will also have the option of being trained in top-level editing of client manuscripts.

Responsibilities:
Editing blog content and uploading it to WordPress
Scouting, recruiting and corresponding with guest bloggers
Curate and develop new content for the Ideasmyth Ideablog and website, as well as client websites
Researching information on current events and industry trends and incorporating it into Ideasmyth’s practices
Scouting and communicating with guest bloggers
Write and edit blog and social media content to be published and posted
Oversee a small team of social media and editorial interns
Attend weekly Ideasmyth meetings and office hours in Manhattan

Preferred Qualifications:
Wordpress and/or blogging experience
Cultural journalism, book journalism and book reviewing experience
Coding knowledge (Basic HTML/CSS)
Interest in contemporary authors, bloggers and other creatives
Comfortable working with computers and learning new technology and software

Editorial Assistant

Digital Trends (http://www.digitaltrends.com) is seeking part-time editorial assistants with a love of consumer tech and gadgetry. This is a fast-paced gig where you'll find and write multiple news stories every day, aid in the editorial process, and also attend industry events as time goes on.

Do not apply unless you have experience reporting online tech news and work from our New York City office (near Penn Station) several hours each week day (during normal work hours).

You must know how to fact check, create basic header images for a story, and be self-driven to start new projects. If we're satisfied with your work, it could develop into a consistent, long-term working relationship with many opportunities down the road.

WHO WE WANT: A motivated journalist and editor with at least five years of business writing and editing experience, preferably in a real-time news operation. The preferred candidate will be familiar with the biotech and life sciences industry.
