Research Editor

ProPublica is looking for a top-notch researcher to help us dig deep into databases and ferret out obscure facts.

Our research editor will work closely with reporters to do everything from background sources to finding examples of kids who were injured by a pharmaceutical drug. The job also includes training staff in research, overseeing at least one full-time intern and a stable of freelance researchers, and maintaining and managing our various accounts for research databases. The job is full-time and based in New York.

Current and Current.org, the nonprofit newspaper and website covering public media, seeks an Executive Director to lead a small team of reporters, editors, and advertising and business/circulation employees to achieve success.

The Executive Director is the key strategic thinker of the organization, applying his/her expansive knowledge of public media's changing environment in the leadership and motivation of Current's editorial, business development, circulation and advertising teams. This position operates under limited supervision. This position is contingent on revenues generated by the Current.

Educational Requirements:Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass communication or business or commensurate work experience required. M.B.A. a plus.

Minimum Requirements:
• 15+ years of professional experience in public media with at least 7 years of proven success working in a leadership level role for a media company required.

Additional Information:

Weekend Editor New York City

The primary responsibilities of the Newzulu NY Weekend Editor will be to:

1. Fact-check and verify to the highest journalistic standards incoming story submissions from contributors on weekends.
2. Repackage stories for our wire partners and media clients including video editing skills.
3. Manage the dynamic US community of Newzulu contributors (Newzulu.us) and expand it exponentially.
4. Helping to establish Newzulu as the US’s premier freelance journalism platform.

This role will work with the Newzulu.us Managing Editor as well as the Newzulu Global Editor-in-Chief, based in Paris as well as the global network of Newzulu weekend editors.

Daily tasks and desired qualities include, but are not limited to:

The Grist Fellowship Program is an opportunity to hone your skills at a national news outlet and deepen your knowledge of environmental issues. We’re looking for early-career journalists with a variety of skills, from traditional reporting to multimedia whizbangery. We will offer exposure to the leading sustainability thinkers and theories of our time, real-world experience at a fast-paced news site, and the occasional toothsome fruit leather.

Fellows work out of Grist’s Seattle office. Fellows must make a six-month commitment. The fellowship pays $2,250 per month. In special cases the fellowship will be renewable once by mutual agreement between the fellow and Grist. The New York Daily News is seeking a data and programming whiz with a background in journalism to join our growing interactive team. This position would primarily involve data analysis, web scraping, building internal news apps and mobile-responsive interactive data visualizations, filing Freedom of Information requests and reporting. You’d be working with teams of journalists, designers, developers and multimedia producers to create dynamic print and web packages that pop.
