Communications Associate

The Communications Associate develops, executes, and manages tactical communications
and other activities to advance AC&C’s goals and objectives. The Communications
Associate is responsible for the writing, editing and proofreading of all marketing
materials.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Organize, identify, write and edit content for AC&C web site, newsletters, blogs,
speeches, presentations, phone scripts, and grant letters.
• Assist with defining and implementing marketing programs
• Organize and write content for AC&C flyer and collateral programs, identify
needed flyers and ensure all AC&C facilities have needed communications
materials in stock
• Identify opportunities to showcase achievements and increase the organizations
public profile through earned media placements, news disseminations and articles
for publications
• Write press releases and materials as assigned
• Prepare reports including statistics as assigned
• Monitor AC&C’s email information account and respond to customer inquiries
• Assist with AC&C’s outreach and education programs including identifying new
opportunities and responding to requests. Prepare event supplies and equipment,
supervise event volunteers, attend events as needed, do presentations, and write
content for events including fundraising events
• Edit direct mail and other fundraising, outreach and organizational materials
• Provide regular content for social media opportunities
• Monitor external on-line adoption websites/accounts (e.g., Petfinder, Adopt a Pet),
review content for accuracy and identify ways to expand to other sites
• Assist with writing for media opportunities as assigned
• Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree preferably with a major in Communications, Marketing or
related degree
• Talented writer who can produce materials for a variety of audiences and needs
• Superior writing and editing skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Primary place of work will be at AC&C Headquarters in a business office
environment. Some travel may be required to AC&C’s five animal shelter

nights and weekends in order to attend outreach and fund raising events.

Website Designer/Coder for documentary & crowdsourcing project

Website Designer/Coder for documentary & crowdsourcing project

Wanted:
A technically skilled, creatively minded website designer and coder for a forthcoming online documentary and crowdsourcing project.

Work with filmmaker Aaron Woolf (King Corn) and a small production team on developing from the ground up an interactive website and framework to host both house-produced and user-generated content.

Small teams of designers/coders may also apply.

Project:
Interactive documentary project that’s part web-journalism, part web-campaign exploring the consequences of short-term thinking in America and the need for long-term thought.

Skill Level:
The bottom line – button pushers need not apply. The project is looking for a collaborator, as well as a web designer and coder, who can bring new ideas to the table in addition to expertise.

Be prepared to share portfolio of website work and ideas.

Requirements:
-- Ability to build and code website infrastructure from ground up around a WordPress, Drupal, or equivalent CMS format. The end goal is to create a website that can be maintained by a web-savvy production staff.
-- Ability to build dynamic web-layout with a compelling user-interface; a coder that can design innovatively.
-- Ability to integrate multimedia productions – video, audio, timeline, slideshow, image, text – into website pages, sub-pages, and posts. Additionally, ability to work with and control Vimeo, Youtube, Flickr, Soundcloud, and other media hosts for website use.
-- Ability to build complex submission form and infrastructure for crowdsourced content (video, audio, image, text) as well as explore the use of media hosts such as Vimeo, Flickr, etc., to aide the submission process.

Editorial Manager – Communications, Marketing & Education Division

The Editorial Manager will be responsible for overseeing content and design for the Rainforest Alliance’s publications, presentations, website and various social media platforms. S/he will ensure editorial and design style consistency across the organization’s written and visual materials and develop messaging appropriate to the organization’s mission and to individual program needs.

Director, Development Communications

POSITION: Director, Development Communications (DDC)

Hospital for Special Surgery is in the quiet stage of a multi-year campaign. The Director, Development Communications will develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive program of development and campaign communications. The DDC will also be responsible for a communications plan for the stewardship of individual donors.

The Director will report to the Vice President, Development and Chief Development Office. He/she will help supervise two Development Associates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Working with Development leadership, develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive program of development, campaign, and annual-giving communications that ensures consistent and effective messaging and promotes the mission of the organization.
• Conceive, design, and produce, in collaboration with campaign consultants, printed communications. Provide oversight of messages delivered through other media (video, Website, online giving).
• Write customized, highly persuasive proposals and letters of inquiry to cultivate and solicit major and principal gifts; write and oversee the production of other fund-raising materials.
• In collaboration with Development staff, create and oversee a stewardship plan for major donors.
• Research and fact-check all information required to write fund-raising materials and stewardship reports. Proofread, edit, and critique fund-raising materials, as requested.
• Manage and develop Development Associates and other staff in day-to-day and special projects.

REQUIREMENTS:

• A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is highly desirable.
• Six years of professional work experience is required. A minimum of three years of experience with development/campaign communications and stewardship, including creating/writing fund-raising materials such as letters, brochures, and reports is required.
• Experience supervising/managing a small team/department is required. Experience in a hospital/university setting is highly desirable.
• Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills are required. Ability to adopt others’ tone/voice, “ghost write” correspondence, remarks, and other materials. (A writing test is required.)
• Creative and marketing-minded; adept at writing and contributing to the design of highly persuasive fund-raising materials that deliver emotional impact while being factually accurate and financially sound.
