Huffington Post Tech Intern

HuffPostTech, the Huffington Post's tech section has immediate openings for a paid fall internship based in New York City. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to work full time, or as close to 40 hours per week as possible.

Primary responsibilities include:

- Pitching, writing and copy editing original stories
- Suggesting stories for aggregation
- Managing social media accounts
- Other general assignments working closely with HuffPostTech editors and reporters

The ideal candidate will be able to start immediately and be deeply interested in all aspects of consumer tech coverage, from smartphones and social media, to startups and the cutting edge, sci-fi-like devices that are changing our world. Experience with social media, Photoshop, Movable Type or similar blogging platform, basic HTML preferred.

Editorial Tech-Journalism Paid Internship: Computer Shopper

Does the idea of working with—and writing about—the latest tech products before they hit store shelves excite you? Is tinkering with your PC your passion? Computer Shopper (www.computershopper.com), a leading online guide to PC and consumer technology, is looking for an Editorial Intern for Fall 2012. We’re based in mid-Manhattan and have a 33-year legacy (first in print, now exclusively online) of providing deep buying advice and detailed reviews of the latest computer and consumer technology products.

Our interns work in concert with our editors and the editor-in-chief, assisting with research, developing Web-production skills, and writing for the site. They will be expected to aid in tech-product testing (according to established scripts and guidelines) and Web-production tasks. The right candidate will also have the opportunity to accumulate digital clips by writing product reviews and contributing to feature stories on ComputerShopper.com. Previous interns have moved on to become freelance writers, and many have landed jobs in digital journalism as a direct result of the skills they acquired with us.

This is a paid internship at $8 per hour.

An essential qualification for this internship is an abiding and demonstrable interest in PC technology. Further requirements:

∙ Highly professional demeanor and good spoken-communication skills.
∙ Undergraduate or graduate degree in progress (or recently completed) in English, communications, journalism, or a related field.
∙ Excellent English writing/grammar skills and attention to detail.

Fall Intern

Debtwire, a division of the Financial Times Group, is seeking a part-time intern for its New York City offices to start immediately.

Candidates must be full-time undergraduate students, enrolled at a college or university, preferably working toward a degree that has a media concentration. The ideal candidate will be energetic, self-motivated, responsible, and detail-oriented.

The selected intern will work alongside a team of skilled financial journalists. The internship will be an opportunity to gain professional experience and a preliminary understanding of the complex world of financial journalism.

Responsibilities will include working on the speed desk and assisting members of the editorial staff as needed. Interns will also have the opportunity to sit in on weekly ledes meetings and build their portfolio by writing Debtwire's weekly Market Players story.

HuffPost Crime / Weird News is looking to bring on a vertical editor intern.

The vertical editor intern must eat, sleep and breathe weird news.
This person must be able to:
-craft killer headlines
-manage the Weird News front page
-pitch stories to HuffPost Front.

The right candidate will also be expected to be a voice on Twitter and Facebook, crafting great posts, scheduling them, and doing whatever it takes to foster a community.

Responsibilities will vary depending on your skill set, but are likely to include keeping the site up to date, copyediting, proofreading, corresponding with the HIV/AIDS community, fact-checking, conducting background research, data entry and reporting/writing articles.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate would be someone who is extremely detail oriented, has editorial/writing experience (especially on issues related to health and social justice) and is comfortable with computers (Microsoft Office experience is a must). Hours are flexible, but candidate should be able to work at least 15 hours a week. Knowledge of basic HTML and interest in HIV/AIDS a plus.
