Research Assistant

The Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC) is looking for a highly motivated individual to assist in conducting research for a book that will describe the organization’s work over the past 32 years. Founded at U.S. Presidential initiative in 1990, FSVC’s mission is to deliver cutting-edge technical assistance to strengthen financial sectors in developing countries and thereby improve the lives of people in the countries where we work. We deliver this assistance mostly by recruiting senior-level financial experts to serve as volunteers on short-term missions.

The pay is $25/hour.

What You'll Do:
Among other tasks, you will be responsible for researching key financial and political events that took place since the 1990s, including global financial crises and events in specific countries where FSVC has operated. Other tasks include organizing historical paper archives to facilitate research, reviewing and editing drafts of book chapters, preparing footnotes and references, and preparing interview questions. For this project, you will work closely with FSVC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and other FSVC staff, as needed.

Video Presenter/Narrator

We are looking for students with an interest or background in broadcast presenting to present our studies in short video clips. Like how news anchors break news down and explain details to the audience, we would like to describe our scientific studies in simple language and record it.

The pay is $15/hour.

In addition, we are seeking students to record voiceovers for animated videos on the Critical Care Research Group’s projects. Students will refer to scripts and use recording equipment and editing software to create voiceovers. Students’ narration will describe, explain, and provide context for the animations in the videos.

Students will work closely with our staff to learn about the content of our current research studies. They will write scripts for short (<5 minutes) animated videos. These videos are intended to explain and present the major scientific concepts underlying our research in simple language. The River Newsroom is seeking a contributing reporter to cover housing in the Hudson Valley. This is a part-time position starting out at 1-3 articles per month, with room to grow in the future.

The ideal candidate would share the enthusiasm we bring to local reporting and investigative journalism, and would be excited to help build and shape The River. The position can be remote, but the ideal candidate should be based in the communities they cover. Responsibilities:
—Generate original ideas for 1-3 stories per month on this beat. That can include hard-hitting investigations, explainer pieces about new policies and initiatives, and quicker news scoops.

—Build relationships with sources beyond the scope of an individual article. Ideally the writer on this beat would build long-term expertise on these issues.

Research & Expressive Writing Intern

As our research and expressive writing intern, you would be tasked with researching, writing, and helping publish articles about the science of our program (using journaling to heal from heartbreak,
grief, and other forms of trauma) for publishing every two weeks.

Articles can be brief (around 500 words or less), but must be well researched, properly sourced and cited, and original. On weeks
where you’re not publishing an article, you’ll be tasked with attending and participating in at least one of our daily journaling sessions. Sharing your journaling is not mandatory, but interns eager to publish and become a contributing journal-artist are preferred.
