Project Assistant, Urban Omnibus (Paid Internship)

The Architectural League seeks a motivated and self-directed intern to serve as Project Assistant for Urban Omnibus. The Project Assistant plays an integral part in a small editorial team committed to interdisciplinary exploration of design and the built environment in New York City.

Responsibilities extend across all aspects of the monthly digital publication, and include editorial support, research and development of new features and special projects, and communications and audience building. Working for Urban Omnibus is a great opportunity to develop wide-ranging editorial experience and exposure to developments in contemporary architecture and urbanism. The Project Assistant will also engage with the Architectural League’s full range of programming.

The ideal candidate will have strong writing and editorial skills, and a demonstrable interest in architecture and urbanism. Experience in graphic design, mapping, or audiovisual documentary production are a plus.

Non-credit Media-related Intern

1. Attendance at IAAP and Psychology Coalition of NGOs Accredited at United Nations [PCUN] meetings
2. Complete tasks assigned by IAAP representative
3. Become familiar with IAAP
4. Become familiar with the components of the UN
5. Attend important UN events
6. Assist representatives in preparing for presentations at events
7. Assist representatives in preparation of documents for submission to UN commissions

Communications Intern, Summer 2019

Internship Description
The communications internship is ideal for a student seeking a hands-on opportunity to work on media relations, online communications, and research and publications for a global human rights organization. The intern will work as an integral parts of PHR’s communications team to help with materials and messaging for PHR’s mission and work.

The communications intern will attend departmental and staff meetings, as well as regular learning and social events with other interns and staff from PHR to round out his/her learning experience and complement PHR-provided career mentoring.

PHR internships are unpaid. Candidates may be able to arrange academic credit, and should check with their individual academic institutions for requirements.

Responsibilities
• Track relevant news stories on human rights violations around the world.
• Research, write, proofread, and copy-edit social media, blog posts, web content, newsletter articles, press releases, and other communications materials.
• Run reports and track website traffic and online ad campaigns.
• Track PHR’s media coverage and compile and organize media lists.
• Research journalists and outlets covering topics and regions related to PHR’s work.

Qualifications and Experience
• Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program of study specializing in communications, journalism, international relations, or other relevant major
• Interest in communications work in a nonprofit setting
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
• Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to facilitate a project from start to finish
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and professionally
• Mature judgment, confidentiality, and capacity to work independently
• Sense of humor a plus

Location and Hours
• The intern will be based in PHR’s New York City office in midtown Manhattan.
• The internship starts in early June and requires at least a 10-week commitment.

Coast-to-Coast Science Writing Internship

Deadline: Feb 15, 2019

Gain hands-on experience with environmental communication on both sides of the United States! The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) is seeking an intern to work for 18 weeks, from summer through mid-autumn, covering the work of SERC scientists in Maryland and California. The intern will start at SERC’s Chesapeake Bay headquarters in Edgewater, Md., receiving training in SERC science communications. After six weeks, the intern will travel to San Francisco Bay to cover the work of SERC marine biologists in California for the remaining 12 weeks. Travel funds from Maryland to California are included. This internship is open to current undergraduate and master's students, and recent graduates up to one year after graduation.

Part I: Chesapeake Bay (SERC-East)
The intern will spend the first six weeks at SERC’s headquarters in Edgewater, Md. Here, the intern will interview SERC scientists and other sources in the field and the lab and write about their work. This first part of the internship will introduce the intern to the main features of SERC science communications: writing articles for the SERC Shorelines blog, preparing posts for SERC’s social media and assisting with the production of SERC’s quarterly newsletter On The Edge, under the mentorship of SERC science writer Kristen Minogue.

Part II: San Francisco Bay (SERC-West)
For the final 12 weeks, the intern will work in Tiburon, Calif., with the West Coast section of SERC’s Marine Invasions Research Lab. SERC’s West Coast branch (a.k.a. “SERC-West”) is hosted at the Estuary & Ocean Science Center, a marine field station at San Francisco State University's Romberg Tiburon Campus. The marine biologists of SERC-West work in San Francisco Bay and along the Pacific Coast studying invasive species, oyster restoration and other critical conservation issues. The intern will write and do outreach about SERC’s West Coast scientists. While in California, the intern will work under the onsite supervision of ecologist Andrew Chang and correspond regularly with Kristen Minogue via video conferencing.
