We are currently looking for a Regional Executive Editor based in New York to lead a small team in the US to turn great science into world-leading projects using digital, social and print media.

The regional executive editor will:
• Work with our the region's top universities, research centers and other science-based organizations to conceive exceptional science communication projects
• Lead a team of in-house and freelance writers, editors and designers to deliver custom live events, websites, social media and print magazines
• Help set editorial policies, guidelines and workflows to ensure our custom publishing and native advertising projects meet the highest standards
• Collaborate with colleagues in business development to help turn our partners' ideas into costings, editorial plans, outlines and great custom projects

A seasoned science communicator, you will have a strong track record at senior levels, and a proven ability to produce excellent, captivating content in a commercial environment. Dynamic and self-motivated, you will be passionate about science communication in a variety of media.

You will have the following required skills and experience
• Demonstrated ability to coach and manage editorial teams to produce high quality scientific media
• Sound scientific background with a bachelor's degree in science preferred
• Ability to work to tight and variable deadlines under pressure
• Experience in managing editors and writers to maintain multiple, regular publishing schedules
• Experience producing content that brings complex science to broad non-specialist audiences
• Sound understanding of current best practice in science communication market and the communication needs of customers
• Experience in compiling complete publications taking into account design and content aspects.

Tech Reporter (Washington DC)

MLex is seeking a reporter in Washington DC to cover the intersection of technology and the law. The ideal candidate will have some experience covering Congress, or state or federal agencies, and a history of partnering with other reporters. MLex is a highly collaborative environment, and the reporter will frequently work with researchers and other reporters focused on similar topics in Brussels, San Francisco, Hong Kong and elsewhere. Chief Careers Editor

We are looking for a Chief Careers Editor for the journal Nature, to lead a small team in building a vibrant digital hub of editorial content that furthers the careers of scientists at all stages of their careers.

The Chief Careers Editor will be a natural innovator who thrives online. You will have significant experience in senior roles in scientific publishing and editing, with a proven track record managing teams of editors and writers.

You will oversee the creation of editorially independent content focusing on research career trends and issues, and enabling researchers in their day-to-day work. This content will be published online and in Nature’s print magazine, and might include service features, Q&As, how-to videos, personal essays, expert columns, advice columns, obituaries, announcements.

Your team will also curate relevant content to an online Careers hub designed to enhance the lives and careers of working scientists.

This role will also involve overseeing independently executed but commercially driven (such as sponsored) content for the hub and guiding a lively blog updating researchers on news in the career sector.

The Chief Careers Editor will also participate in the organization of Nature Careers Expos, helping to develop panel ideas and source speakers

Experience, skills and qualifications:
• Strong, demonstrated writing and editing background; demonstrated ability to manage editorial teams; demonstrated ability to work with digital product teams to develop and execute on content strategies in a fast-paced environment; a university degree in science or the equivalent preferred
• Significant experience in science journalism. Demonstrated ability to deftly edit to high journalistic standards in engaging but sophisticated terms for scientist audiences, to be creative, energetic and able to work to tight deadlines.
• Strong interest in, and understanding of, the lives of working scientists and the challenges they face as they pursue their careers and navigate their day-to-day jobs
• Attention to detail and accuracy, strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently, effectively and collegially with others across varied teams
• Comfort with and experience of working in a commercial editorial environment preferable

Technology Editor

Nature Publishing Group (NPG) is a publisher of high impact scientific and medical information in print and online. NPG publishes journals, online databases, and services across the life, physical, chemical and applied sciences and clinical medicine.

We are currently looking for a Technology Editor to edit and write features on biomedical technology, software tools and data science, for the audience of researchers and others who read Nature and nature.com. The successful candidate for this role will have several years’ experience writing and editing scientific content and an interest in molecular biology concepts.

The role involves editing and writing Nature’s monthly Technology Features focused on cutting-edge advances in biomedical research, in addition to editing and writing monthly Toolbox features and Q&As and other secondary content on software tools for scientists
We are seeking a candidate familiar with publishing in a digital environment. Curating the Nature Toolbox web page http://www.nature.com/news/toolbox will be a key responsibility.
Working with art and media editor teams to select/develop necessary accompanying graphics and relevant images will be required
The editor will need to stay abreast of technology trends in the biomedical sciences, and software/data trends for researchers, consulting with manuscript editors, members of the Nature magazine team, experts in digital tools at Springer Nature, and beyond

Story Coordinator

Story Coordinators are responsible for finding, securing and coordinating elements for national TV news segments in a highly competitive environment under very tight deadlines.

Candidates must have excellent research, phone and people skills. Daily duties involve making numerous phone calls to secure interviews and obtain information, doing background research utilizing public records and conducting pre-interviews.

Applicants must be highly motivated team players who can juggle multiple projects and work well under pressure.

Features Editor

Gothamist is hiring a full-time features editor to work out of our Brooklyn headquarters. The features editor is charged with assigning, editing, and publishing stories written by freelancers and staff writers.

An ideal candidate will have several years of reporting experience in New York City and knows how to write a concise 500-word story as well as a deeply reported and bulletproof 3,000-word feature.

The candidate should also have at least two years of experience assigning and meticulously editing these kinds of pieces with patience, clarity, and empathy—whether they are working with a seasoned journalist or a writer who has never been published and needs polishing.

A strong candidate will be familiar with the kinds of issues that Gothamist strives to advance and will be able to identify and cultivate new ones. Our features editor must also be comfortable writing a trenchant blog post, giving thoughtful line edits, assigning a freelance photographer, and editing and publishing a breaking news story, all within the span of a few hours.
