Digital Editor, Love What Matters

Qualifications
· Strong understanding of curating content across social networks.
· Familiarity with wordpress helpful but not required.
· Strong interest in crafting a compelling, emotional story.
· Skilled in basic editing, writing, production.
· Experience or interest in journalism, researching and writing compelling stories about people, hope, compassion, etc.
· Must be a self-motivated team player with a strong work-ethic, eager to learn and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
· Strong online, search and research skills.
· Ability to find new sources of content across blogs, websites, and other curation sites.

(Individuals with prior editing experience are preferred.)

Duties to be performed
· Reach out on, build, edit, curate and publish stories across Love What Matters platforms.
· Continually find, group, sort, organize, and share the best and most relevant content across the internet for the Love What Matters brand. Maintain and grow LWM presence on various social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube.
· Work with founder and editorial team to continuously improve editorial strategy.

Compensation
$12-15 per hour.

 

Journalism Internship at NuOrigins Magazine

NUORIGINS MAGAZINE, an African-American publication based in New York City, is seeking contributors to our publication.

The publication covers local and unique stories that mainstream press hasn't published or won't publish.

We're looking to empower INTERNS with real life experience in Journalism who can do the following:

Submit unique, editorialized stories outside of mainstream press (The Root, BET.com, TheGrio, Washington Post, etc.) stories that either hasn’t been reported yet or are fresh takes on currently headlining topics.

Must have a passionate desire for journalism, educating, and spreading the news.

Must have journalism and WordPress experience.

WordPress experience is a plus.

Must know AP Style or own the guidebook.

Must have social media experience or some understanding of SEO.

Must be locally based in New York City and able to come in for meetings.

Photographers/Vloggers/Videographers/Graphic Designers/Social Media Influencers looking for expereince are also welcome to apply.

Typical stories are between 300 and 1000 words, 20 words per sentence paragraphs, on deadline.

Knowledge of Slack, instant message and Google Drive is a plus.

 

Non-credit Paid Media Intern

Speakable PBC is seeking interns with an interest in and a passion for cross-platform writing, reporting, and social media to join the team for two days each week. An Editorial Intern will assist in the development, production, and execution of editorial content across Speakable, from newsletters, community management, promotional materials, and pitching stories that help amplify the conversation around social impact.

Responsibilities:
• Report, write and research editorial content chronicling the growth in social impact and citizens desire to take action.
• Work with the Editorial Lead on original content creation.
• Brainstorm and contribute ideas in team meetings.
• Help assist with social media efforts.
• Report, write and research marketing content.
• Conduct research as needed.
• Seek out and track news and research in social impact for write-ups to be featured on Speakable.

Non-credit Paid Multimedia Internship

The Multimedia Division at Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking undergraduate and graduate students in journalism, film, or related fields to be Multimedia interns for the Spring 2020 semester in the New York office. Ideally, the candidate will be available for a minimum of 16 hours per week for 4 months - timing can be flexible.

This program is designed for students interested in a human rights or journalism career who hope to acquire training and hands-on experience in video production. Under close supervision of the Multimedia team, interns will have an opportunity be involved in every step of the production process. Projects may include transcribing interviews, searching archives for footage, conducting research, subtitling footage, editing photos and using video and photo editing software.

Students will also have opportunities to attend lectures, trainings, professional development workshops, and/or special events relating to human rights, as well as network with other HRW interns, volunteers, and employees. As an HRW intern, students will take skills acquired in school and apply them in a professional setting.

Internship at online national newspaper

The intern will support the newsroom in managing the English version of ilGiornale.it's foreign section.

Key Duties:

- Edit articles: The intern will go through the articles to ensure there are no spelling mistakes or typos, punctuation, spacing or format errors. The intern will also help improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO) by adding tags, SEO titles and metadescriptions.
- Support the newsroom in its social media strategies
- Manage InsideOver.com social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
- Create multimedia content for the social media channels (photogalleries, videos, Instagram stories)

Requirements:
Excellent English (native level)
Confidence with the use of the main social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
Interest in foreign news, global dynamics and news media
Eagerness in taking part in a brand new project
Basic knowledge of Italian is preferred but not a must

The internship will be paid and will be full time (from 9:30 am to 6 pm) from Monday to Friday.
The newsroom is based in Milan (central area).

Intern

Our interns do web research and writing on any number of topics. You will get edited by veteran journalists and editors.

Seeds of Peace Communications Intern

The Communications Intern supports the Communications team with a range of tasks that may include, transcribing interviews, creating short videos, curating photos, writing blog posts, proofreading documents, research, and some basic design work. The Intern will gain experience in digital marketing and content creation, as well as improve his/her communications writing skills. Requirements: self-motivated, organized, and excellent writing and communications skills. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, video editing, and/or InDesign is a plus. General understanding of WordPress and some HTML is also preferred.

Internship

The intern will conduct interviews and video record people in public places (vox pop) to get their opinion regarding the latest news
Questions will be provided to the interviewer in advance
The intern will interview five (5) individuals two times per week (ten people in total per week)
Interview dates will be scheduled in advance
Videos must be sent unedited within 24 hours of receiving the questionnaire
Each of the questionnaires includes around 10 news topics
The interviewer must feel comfortable asking questions regarding different news topics, such as politics, entertainment, and sports, among other ones
Interviewers name will appear on the video credits

Editorial Intern, Communications and Creative

Position Summary:
The Editorial Intern will support the Communications and Creative team in its efforts to cover our work in seven countries where we work and amplify the voices of girls around the world. Assembly, Malala Fund’s digital publication and newsletter, is a platform for girls and young women to share their thoughts, challenges and accomplishments — and for all of us to learn about this new generation of leaders. The Editorial Intern will research, write and edit original content for Assembly and provide administrative support to the Communications and Creative team. The ideal candidate is a highly organised individual with great interpersonal skills and can thrive in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, creative environment.

This is a paid 12-week internship working out of Malala Fund’s New York office. Applicants should be able to commit to working between 24-32 hours per week during the fall 2019 term. Graduate and undergraduate applications welcome.

- Research and write a variety of content for Assembly, Malala Fund’s digital publication and newsletter
- Participate in editorial meetings to brainstorm and generate ideas for stories and features
- Reach out to potential contributors
- Maintain communications databases to track content and outreach
- Assist in cataloging photos and other assets
- Other administrative duties as assigned
- Translate posts (if fluent in a second language)

Qualifications:
- Previous internship or work experience
- Demonstrated interest in communications or journalism
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with previous experience in copyediting and knowledge of AP style
- Strong research skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritise workload and work well under pressure
- Maintain high degree of confidentiality with sensitive organisational matters and interact professionally at all internal/external levels
- Second language desirable
