Production Editor, onearth.org for

We're looking for a consultant to serve as production editor. Responsibilities may include:

• Posting stories to the website through our Drupal-based content management system.
• Copy editing and fact checking online stories before publication.
• Writing headlines and display type, selecting and cropping photos, deciding story placement, and otherwise ensuring the quality and timeliness of our homepage and other key aspects of onearth.org.
• Editing and production of audio slideshows, videos, photo galleries, and other multimedia features, and promoting onearth.org content through social media.
• Other responsibilities as appropriate.

Requirements:
• Knowledge of web standards and tools including HTML/CSS, Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro or other video editing software. Familiarity with both Mac and PC preferred.
• Experience using a content management system for production of a news website or blog.
• Excellent news judgment, editing skills, attention to detail, knowledge of AP style, and demonstrated interest in science and environmental reporting.
• Flexible hours and ability to work remotely while also being able to visit our midtown Manhattan offices occasionally for meetings with editors.

Compensation:
This consultancy will be based on an hourly wage. Hours may vary between approximately 50 and 100 hours a month based on a quarterly production schedule. ASSOCIATE PRODUCER, THE TAKEAWAY (Part-Time; 30/hrs) for WNYC & WQXR

The Associate Producer will be responsible for writing 8 of the show's daily 16 live newscasts. The newscasts are usually between 90 seconds and 2 minutes in length and they are spread out- around one every 15 minutes-across the 4 hours we are live on air each morning. The job requires strong news-writing, in a live newsroom situation, experience. The successful candidate will have several years experience writing newscasts in a busy newsroom environment. The hire will be trained in The Takeaway's news hub and become a part of a small team. The hours are 4:00am to 10:00am daily (weekdays only). The job also includes pulling tape (audio) from various sources to include in the newscasts. We will show you how to do this as part of your training.

All members of the morning show team are expected to be self-starters and to keep up with a wide variety of news sources; be able to think and act quickly; and thrive in a collaborative, deadline-driven work environment.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Writing strong news content quickly and efficiently for newscasts against the clock

EVENING PRODUCER, THE TAKEAWAY for WNYC

Co-producers WNYC and PRI - in collaboration with the BBC World Service, The New York Times, and WGBH Boston television and radio—are reinvigorating morning drive. The Takeaway is a multi-platform morning drive news program that is creating a new model for news reporting in public broadcasting. The show is rooted in the values public radio is best known for—highly credible journalism, depth and context—but breaks out from the medium's conventionally packaged sound by delivering national and international news and cultural stories through a conversational and unprecedented personality-driven format. ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST for New York Public Radio

Established in the year 2000, the WNYC Archives are New York Public Radio's physical link to the station's rich and storied past. Managed by the Director of Archives--an archivist and audio preservation specialist--the department provides a central repository for thousands of recordings, photographs, memorabilia, and institutional records. Among its holdings are more than 50,000 recordings in a variety of formats, from early lacquer and acetate discs to reel-to-reel tape, DBX 700, F1 Beta, DAT, MD and CD formats. Video materials are a new and growing component of the collection and are currently stored on a variety of formats. In addition, NYPR's recent acquisition of WQXR includes the WQXR archives of audio, paper and photo materials.

The Assistant Archivist position is a two-year, full-time National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) funded position with a projected start date of September 1, 2010. It will focus on the digital reformatting of older analog materials on lacquer disc and tape (1938-1970). All reformatted items are to be cataloged using a PBCore metadata schema with an eye to exporting all entries as MARC records. The Assistant Archivists will work closely with the Senior Archivist, Archivist and Web Content Producer and will be expected to meet series of production deadlines involving preservation-quality transfers of historical audio materials.
