Multimedia/Technology Reporter
UPSTATE NEW YORK INNOVATION TRAIL
Position Summary:
The Innovation Trail Multimedia Reporter is a beat reporter focusing on innovation and technology and their impact on the upstate New York economy. The reporter will produce balanced and engaging audio, visual, online and new media news content intended for broadcast, online, and on-demand audiences. The reporter will produce content specific to the Innovation Trail community on behalf of his/her partner station and will also contribute to collaborative reporting and engagement activities with other LJC reporters and stations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Conduct regular research to understand the issues and terminology associated with the innovation economy;
-Cultivate diverse sources including under-represented segments of the population;
-Produce multimedia, multiplatform content including, feature reports, enterprise reports, news spots, blogs entries and extensive on-air and on-line content;
-Contribute to roundtable discussions, broadcast and multimedia talk shows, interviews and community engagement discussions of the issue;
-Assist in training/mentoring of interns and other staff.
Qualifications and Education Required:
-Two to five years on-air broadcast news experience preferred.
-Knowledge of new media production techniques, as well as radio production.
-Authoritative, conversational on-air delivery.
-Solid news judgment and ability to perform without supervision.
-Experience in reporting/producing technology/science based stories highly desirable.
-College degree (Journalism) preferred.
-Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure.

Staff Writer
We seek an accomplished journalist/writer to provide timely, smartly written analyses and summaries
of the most important legal news stories of the day, from court rulings and government enforcement
actions to high-profile litigation. The successful candidate must have excellent news judgment,
familiarity and deep interest in legal subjects, and the ability to write about often-complex issues in a
clear, concise, and sophisticated manner.
This is not an entry-level position. To be considered, you must provide a writing sample, preferably

Law Firm Reporter for The New York Law Journal
The New York Law Journal is seeking a Law Firm Reporter. This reporter will have the opportunity to cover the legal profession as it responds to economic, technological and global challenges. The ideal reporter for this position will be interested in and familiar with the economics of the legal profession (hourly bills, contingent fees, lockstep and performance-based pay, etc.), differences among major practice areas (litigation, M & A, bankruptcy, private equity, intellectual property, etc.), hiring practices and major concepts of legal ethics (conflicts, privilege, etc.). The reporter must understand the pecking order of New York law firms and how their status correlates with client lists and practice strengths. The reporter must be able to interpret trends in law firm business, including the effects of the current economic downturn on the entire legal market in New York, including firms, government, the non- profit sector and law schools. This reporter will also keep track of developments in the economics mid-size law firms.
The law firm reporter is also be responsible for finding and following litigation involving lawyers or law firms as plaintiffs or defendants, and report on attorney disciplinary proceedings. A talent for writing decisions on a myriad of legal topics and covering live civil and criminal court proceedings is essential.
The beat requires an aggressive reporter accustomed to daily deadlines. Competition mainly comes from the top newspapers in the country, the New York Times, and Wall Street Journal as well as a growing host of blogs.

Soundcheck, hosted by John Schaefer, is WNYC’s daily talk show about music. Covering all musical genres, Soundcheck celebrates the musical passions of performers, composers, and critics as well as the public radio audience. Listeners enjoy intimate conversations with and live performances by leading artists from New York and around the globe. The show also strives to bring listeners up to date on the latest music industry news, trends and ideas, and it offers listeners a voice with frequent call-in segments.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Propose ideas to Senior Producer and team for both idea-driven segments and artist interviews.
• Assist with booking guests for programs on a daily basis
• Contribute to background research as assigned and provide host with appropriate, thorough and accurate support material for broadcast
• Write accurate, clear and lively scripts for host
• Timely meet all project deadlines to ensure smooth workflow
• Edit and prepare audio for broadcast using Pro Tools and DAVID software
• Assist with directing daily program as needed, produce rundown for host and operations staff, screen calls and questions
• Work with digital media department to develop online program content that complements and expands the reach of the regular daily on-air radio program; write corresponding web copy as needed
