Seeking Motivated Writer for Project
Selected Wisdom is hiring a motivated writer who can craft engaging narratives based on true stories. The writer must have proven track record of delivering tight manuscripts on time whose prose is concise and punchy. We need a storyteller, not a historian or documentarian. The writer must be able to work independently, be receptive to feedback, and able to incorporate that feedback into final drafts.
The project will be a nonfiction book comprising 15 to 20 short chapters of 3500 to 5000 words each. If the writer successfully delivers chapters, we may add editing to the base contract.
Other requirements/notes:
- Writer must be based in New York City or nearby tri-state region. Writer must be willing to ride public transportation and conduct minimal travel around New York City area.
- -- Pay will be per deliverable upon delivery. Rate to be negotiated during contract negotiations based on experience and past quality of articles.
- --- Pay for editing will be negotiated at the conclusion of base contract.
- --- Receipt of royalties on manuscript profits will be discussed during contract negotiations.

NYC Media Lab is seeking a Producer to prepare a special report on the future of virtual reality. Working closely with NYC Media Lab staff and advisors, the Producer will identify primary areas of interest, talk to key players in the field, and collect, draft and edit content. The final report will be distributed widely to the NYC Media Lab community.
This is an ideal position for a current or recent graduate student with a background in multimedia journalism and a grasp of the digital media sector. Candidates should have strong writing and project management skills, a capacity to work independently, and an ability to go find great, interesting stories and craft a compelling narrative.
This is a project-based position during June, July, and August. The final project deliverable is set for Labor Day. The total remuneration for the project will be $6,000.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Work with staff at NYC Media Lab to produce a 20-30 page thought leadership POV
+ Research and identify at least 30 qualified innovators in the field from industry, the startup community, and universities
+ Coordinate and conduct interviews
+ Collect and synthesize secondary research and other background material
+ Produce media complementary media artifacts, such as video and/or audio
Location:
This position can be performed remotely, but will require frequent travel to locations in and around NYC to conduct interviews.
