Paid Summer Communications Intern

The Role
Responsibilities include: researching and writing copy about palliative care for our online platforms; helping to creatively grow our networks online; identifying and building relationships with key influencers and partners; helping with posts on social sites; engaging patients and caregivers with compelling content; helping with our website and blog; and assisting with tracking the impact of our content.

Qualifications
–An ability to write about complex issues for a lay audience (journalism experience a plus!)
– A love of/solid understanding of all things social media
–Research experience!
-An interest in working in the non-profit sector
–Flexibility to work in our midtown Manhattan office, as well as remotely

A plus:
–Experience using social media as part of a project or organization (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blog, etc.) and social media metrics

Internships are for approximately 2-3 days a week through the end of the Summer in our midtown Manhattan office. We are able to pay a minimum wage stipend.

ENR, the primary source of news and data for the construction industry, is seeking a freelance economics editor. The work would be performed initially on a part-time basis in ENR's midtown Manhattan office with our award-winning staff. Candidates should have experience or education in economics and journalism and feel comfortable conducting interviews, writing, assigning work to other freelancers and editing articles. (Experience with TM1 databases is a plus but not mandatory.)

The heart of the job involves analysis of material prices and wages and how they are shaped by market forces or other factors. While the deadlines are challenging, our reports are vital to the industry.

Freelance Feature Writers

Guerrero Howe is looking for dynamic, inquisitive reporters to write (locally or remotely) for any or all of its six industry-leading magazines: American Builders Quarterly, Profile, Hispanic Executive, Advantage, Modern Counsel, and Sync.

Writers are provided with sources, story angles, and preliminary research to begin each feature. They need only conduct a phone interview, supplement with any necessary research, write the article, and fact-check it. Features are usually completed within a two-week timeframe from the date of assignment.

Assignments vary in length from 500 to 2,000 words. Writers are compensated at a rate of $.18 per word (approximately $90-$360/feature).

Contributing Writer - bill summaries for New York City and San Francisco legislation

After almost a year of working with federal legislation, we are expanding into local legislation in San Francisco and New York City. We are looking for writers to focus on this new area of service.

If you are a voracious consumer of local politics who cares deeply about how changes in your city affect your community, this position may be right for you!

We are looking for writers in New York City or San Francisco areas with a demonstrated knowledge of the local political scene and the ability to meet with local experts, politicians, journalists, and community members.

You will be working through the legal jargon in legislative texts, parsing out the true meaning of local bills and writing summaries using language that the average person can understand. (Please see the federal bill summaries currently posted in our app as an example.)

This is a flexible part-time contractor role (~20 hours/week) with potential for growth as Countable moves forward into more localities and state legislation. Writing assignments will be distributed based on upcoming bills. Contributing writers are also encouraged to stay current on upcoming legislation and propose relevant writing assignments.
